I think something that might be interesting to do is have varying levels of "Clean"
For instance, I'd be willing to accept an AOL Icon on my desktop for the use of WinAmp. It's easy to delete, and worth it in most cases.
You could allow others to rate whether or not something is "Clean" or "Ad Free."
Not sure if these have been listed or not but my favorites are
Avast Anti-Virus (www.avast.com)
HideOutlook (r2 Studios)
Startup Delayer (r2 Studios)
Yahoo! Pops
Real VNC (www.realvnc.com)
CookTop
EvrSoft 1stPage (EvrSoft)
I know it's already listed but I do love Startup Control panel.
>> This would be scary, if you think that taking sites down was not just and legitimate.
It's not a legitimacy issue, its the fact that there is no clear law out there about P2P and they are still raiding them. If the police stormed into your home while you were P2P downloading, while you thought you were protected, wouldn't it scare you?
