We have four computers in our house: two that run Linux exclusively, one running Win 2000, and my computer, which dual boots between Gentoo Linux and Win XP, all of which we have built ourselves from parts from a local electronics store.
If you're gonna worry about your grades, you're gonna worry about your grades. I don't think having a few PC's laying around (or Xbox, PS2, et. al) will hinder anyone who is determined. If you're gonna not do your work, then you probably don't need PC's to distract you anyway;-)
I will say that having to read through manuals and find my own answers to my questions when I was starting out with Slackware Linux helped a LOT when I took AP Biology, if only because I was already used to looking up answers for myself rather than relying on others.
