I'm a regular Forum 2000 reader. There are many phrases that get repeated by the F2K 'somads' - xxx, I underestimated you is one of them. Granted, they are used to great comic effect.
SAT used to range from 200 to 800 on two sections, math and "verbal". They dumbed down the whole system a few years ago, so I don't know how much has changed.
Scores still go from 200 to 800 for each section, with 500 being the proverbial Average Student. The dumbing-down you speak of occured becuase the Average Student now would score a 460 or so - so they added a few points to our friend's score (and hence, everyone else's as well), bringing him back to 500. --
Hey! Moderators! Give this guy a few points! If I had a few, I'd definitely let him have one - he's made the most sense out of anyone so far and his views need to be heard.
And beyond that, what do you think her credit rating will look like? A little asterisk with a note attached to it reading "don't lend money to this woman. Ever!" perhaps? --
I think an IP should be handled the exact same way as a telephone number. You usually don't go about showing those on tv either, do you?
As I understand it, certain IP addresses are invalid, much like the "555" phone numbers. Why not show one of those instead, if it was ever needed? (Example: someone surfing the web in a movie - you don't want a real web host to be slashdotted (in the generic sense) by people who see the movie) --
Yesterday I was downloading Netscape Domestic/128-bit Version. It was going kinda slow, so I used FTP Search to look for the file elsewhere. It's all over the place, anyone could download it... --
I live in New Hampshire, and we have never had a sales tax or income tax. Often we have a budget surplus, though there is an occasional deficit year. How can this be? Local control - the towns and cities take care of most things themselves. Typically money is raised through local property tax. But you can vote (directly, even!) to raise or lower it as you choose.
Democracy's pretty nice when you let it happen. --
* Prerequsites are "bad". Ever been in a class with an obnoxious moron without the prerequisites, who nags the professor to explain things he should already know?
From first hand experience at WPI I can tell you that the lack of prerequisites has been beneficial to my education. I have been able to take upper-level courses for which I have the prerequisite knowledge, just not the prerequisite credit. If that's not enough, it's understood that I take the class at my own risk. Failing is my problem, not the school's. Also, a good professor should be able to keep up with the pace of the course despite the few lagging students. --
But I do wish that the media would stop pushing the idea that a clone might be created with an intact set of memories, a complete person! That sort of information simply isn't stored in DNA.
Actually it is, but only the Bene Tleilax know how to keep the memories intact. And I don't think they will licensing their axlotl tanks any time soon. --
seems like these sites should be prepared for some high-volume traffic...
Here's an idea: Slashdot Effect as scalability test. Post a link to a site that wants to be tested, and slashdotters will be sure to follow it. Bingo, they get a real-world test (well approximately) of their web server's capabilities under heavy load. Is this so much different from the LinuxPPC cracking (or W2K-test) site? --
The price of the Screenfridge will depend on several variables. When we go to market with this product we may try non-traditional business models such as lowering the price to consumers in return for displaying banners on their fridge doors. --

30,000 AU = approx .474 light years. The next-nearest star is about 4 light years away I think. So about 1/10 the distance. Pretty damn far!

Here's a slashdot review of it if you like

Wouldn't the dark matter then also be concentrated near the Earth? I think we would have seen it by now.

But neither of us is giving a source, so who knows for real?

This sounds like a quote right out of a guide to Feng Shui.
Who would have suspected that Confucius knew about fluorescent lights?

Specifically, you want to translate "Dark Father" into Dutch.

We don't need a third party, we need a second one.
But you're right, five or so sounds right to me.
