I get that you may not like the UI, or have issues with some designs they went for, hell i could write a list a mile long of things i found stupid from Win 3.x all the way through to Win 7. But "MS way or the highway"? Because frankly I've never seen an OS short of something you built yourself that allows for more modding than Windows. you can strip out whole subsystems, hell there is a hacker that has a version of Win 7 called Tiny7 that fits on a CD and uses 243Mb of RAM! you can even use third party tools like Aston to completely change the shell so it'll look and act like pretty much anything from Win98 to mac to KDE.
But you DO have to admit its pretty funny when we have the M$ brigade on here saying "Fuck $ony!" only to have to...use an M$ console. 1.-if the patch comes out on linux it will be 14 pages of CLI and a tarball that will need a specific version of GCC, if they put it in the repo upon application it will throw you into single user mode on first boot. you DO know how to edit your config files, right?
2.-If the patch comes out on Windows it will take 2 hours to install, followed by an hour on the "waiting to shutdown' screen and ANOTHER hour on the "Please wait, configuring Windows" boot up and may God have mercy upon your tortured soul if the power goes out while that is happening!
3.-If the patch comes out on Apple it will be a year behind, but it will come in a cool silver look and everyone will talk about how truly wonderful it is. it doesn't actually patch anything "bad" it just brings sprinkles of Steve's magic to your poor pathetic life because "hey Apple never gets viruses' so everything you've read here? The reason so many of us are hating metro is NOT because its new, i will be the first to say its a really nice tablet/smartphone OS. the reason we all hate it is a PC or laptop is NOT a "supergigantic smartphone" and treating it as such is stupid, its pointless, and it sucks. what works on a 4 inch screen simply doesn't work on a 24 inch screen and have every screen on the planet be a touchscreen (which again watch the preview videos and count how many times he says touchscreen) is beyond retarded. Tell me friend would YOU want to spend the day poking the desktop screen? how about your laptop, would you want to try poking at it all damned day?
Metro isn't the problem, its companies like MSFT and Canonical trying to make desktops and laptops into supergigantic smartphones that is the problem. the whole damned reason we HAVE tablets and smartphones is that certain forms and functions simply works well together!
Hell I paid $350 USD for my netbook before the flood and it comes with a dual core AMD APU that curb stomps what they are offering in the $500 ChromeBooks and that is including the cost of me upgrading to 8Gb of RAM and buying a carrying case!
How they can't smell the fail i just don't know, as here in the USA I have seen many dual core laptops for $279 after MIR and even quad cores for $400, and they expect people to pay $500+ USD for an Atom dual with Intel graphics? Really? Hell I can get the exact. same. specs. on a Win 7 Starter netbook for $250 right this minute at Walmart with NO MIR so I can literally buy TWO with a fully functional offline OS for the same price as their OS which does less and doesn't work without the net!
Frankly this is a serious WTF? moment for me, i honestly don't get how they think offering a less useful product on less powerful hardware for MORE money is a viable business plan. As i pointed out if you want a fast boot cloud OS you can get Expressgate in just about every ASUS laptop and netbook and those are starting at $200 cheaper (again for more power as their lowest models still have a dual AMD APU with more powerful graphics) and if that weren't enough there are several DIY full Linux editions like JoliCloud that will give you the whole net OS thing while still giving you offline functionality! It just doesn't make a damned lick of sense.

Can we all just admit NOW that the PS4 was a failure? while i don't have a horse in this race (I'm happy with Steam and have moved both my boys onto gaming PCs) just as we saw Sony slaughter Sega with the PS1 and MSFT with the PS2 its pretty obvious that the PS4 can be called the loser at this point in the race with the crazy cheap X360 and Nintendo with the cool controller drinking their milkshake.
In a way the irony is pretty thick since they fell for the same stupid idea that destroyed Sega with the Saturn. if you look at the specs the Saturn was crazy powerful, one could argue it was more powerful than the PS1 which used COTS, but the design made it a royal bitch and a half to code for so nobody used even half the power, in fact IIRC less than a dozen games over its entire lifetime even used the second CPU for anything better than sound or game AI. When this is added to the fact that the more expensive and complex chip design meant that Sega couldn't lower the price like Sony could without bleeding to death just helped to dig the hole deeper.
Now look at the PS4, the Blu Ray caused them to take a HUGE bath on every unit sold (some estimates have the real cost of the PS4 at $1000 at launch, compared to $550 for the X360) and the cell not only made it a royal bitch and a half to code and port for but when combined with the BD made it even harder for Sony to lower the price without just gushing money. Compare this to the X360 which actually took the PS1 lessons to heart and was able to actually lower chip counts as it progressed thus making it profitable on every unit sold for more than 3 years.
I think the big question is not whether Sony will survive but whether they will have the money to make another powerful machine or not. if the rumors Ars technica have been printing are true you are talking about a mid range AMD Bobcat or Bulldozer APU that will be about the same power as you get in those $300 tigerdirect kits, not very impressive for a console, not if you want it to last 5 years which is the average lifespan historically. But one has to love the irony at all those here that hate Sony for being douches who then have to support MSFT which they can't stand either.

As you pointed out Linux has much more programs and Google just doesn't seem to grasp that not everywhere in the USA has high speed 24/7 connections. ZOMFG have you seen how much the ones that have released ChromeOS netbooks want for the damned thing? Many are over $500! For an OS that is pretty much completely useless without the net and has less programs than both Linux and Windows AND if that wasn't enough to set off your WTF meter the specs on the hardware is beyond shitty. The ones I've seen have a shitty Atom CPU, shitty Intel graphics AND a crazy price...wow I wonder why those don't just fly off the shelves?
If you want a net based OS friends listen to old Hairy and just get a EEE PC netbook. Not only do they come with better hardware (ION or my favorite AMD Fusion) but you get Expressgate that is a NetOS that boots in less than 6 seconds and has tons of apps, both free and pay, in the ASUS appstore. Oh and you get Win 7 as well so you can still run any Windows programs if needed or if you prefer Linux or want to triple boot they are supported OOTB since IIRC Ubuntu 10.04.
This whole thing just seems more than a little pointless when compared to what is out there. Android is a hit so maybe they should either just stick with that or if they want to gain some real share subsidize the hw and get the price point down to around $100 which they could do with ARM, hell they probably could with X86 if they took a single core Bobcat as that would cut out the cost of the graphics chip. Don't view this as hatred for netOSes, on the contrary i just love Expressgate and can really see the appeal, but just not on weak hardware at crazy prices.

Metro and all the tiles are STILL consuming memory and cycles, yes? this is gonna be horribly bad for laptops and netbooks as the last thing you need is an entire second UI running in the background sucking more power. If MSFT gives us a switch, hell I'll even take a GPO I can script, then I'll say metro isn't a problem. but as long as it continues putting a drain on the system like a dead elephant on your back then i'll call it a fail.
As someone who has run both the DP and CP I will be happy to list where metro would work great and where it would suck balls. Works great..1.-Smartphones, 2.-Tablets, 3.-Kitchen PCs, 4.-Kiosks, 5.-With parental controls and a 17 inch touchscreen it would also make a great "my first PC" kinda thing.
Where Win 8 sucks balls, 1.-Desktops, 2.-laptops, 3.-netbooks. Now you would think "hey they got 5 good and only 3 bad, that's good right?" wrong that's bad because the three that suck balls are the biggest sources of revenue for MSFT by a pretty damned wide margin.

I think this is wonderful news as KDE has been the saner choice as of late as far as stability, but if they are smart they will base it on Debian and NOT Ubuntu. it is pretty obvious to anyone with eyes that Canonical is floundering, trying to find a business model that will keep them alive and failing, first Netbook edition (coming waaaay past when that boat had sailed) and then trying to rip off of all people that stupid ass MSFT idea of pushing cell phone UIs on the desktop, hoping they can sell either Ubuntu TV (not a chance, Android and embedded Linux variants has that tied up) or Ubuntu smartphones (not a chance the market is too crowded as it is, its obvious it'll be owned by apple and Android) so they can expect quality to go down, bugs to go up, simply because they have ZERO real revenue stream and Shuttleworth has already said he's not sinking more of his money into Canonical.
Debian was here before Canonical and will be here in 3 years when i predict Canonical will either go cloud server OS only or close their doors. they have testing if they want to be cutting edge but IMHO basing it on stable would be the way to go, a rock solid never breaks KDE with a push towards user friendliness might be just the ticket to gain some share when MSFT shits out Win 8, aka "My God I want to be the CEO of Apple so bad it hurts!" If you actually watched their last presentation you would see why windows 8 is written in fail, they mention TOUCHSCREENS like 30 times! they even came up with ever more absurd scenarios of people getting touchscreens, buying touchscreen laptops (ignoring that the form factor is NOT touch friendly and that laptops are completely cutthroat and it would add a good $100+ to the cost) touchscreens for their desktops (when a 17 inch touchscreen is $300 and a 24 inch non touch is $145) and the final bust a gut moment was when he talked about how real time traders would be buying 3 screens...with a touchscreen in the middle! because when every second counts and one wrong trade can fuck your life up you WANT to you life to hinge on whether your greasy fingers hits the right spot LOL!
Lets cut the bullshit and be honest, okay? we're geeks right? we know there is a REASON why Apple doesn't run iOS on their macbooks...its because the cell phone UI sucks ass on large non touch screens! So why would a company like MSFT do such a dumbshit move? Its actually very simple and two fold...1.-MSFT knows that PCs will NEVER be a massive growth market again, because they passed 'good enough" at dual cores and are a mature tech, whereas cell phones and tablets are hot so this is a Hail Mary pass trying to get them into that market. 2.- Every developer should be insulted because they are betting you are REALLY stupid, we are talking retarded scrote here. You see they think they can bullshit you into believing "Well if i just write for Windows 8 herp derp i can write once and have the desktop AND cell phones!" while ignoring either your program has the sophistication of a fart app and thus shits all over the power you have on X86 desktops and laptops OR you end up with something that will suck the living shit out of a cell phone battery and get the users hating your guts. Great choice huh?
But those of us with brains know what the truth is and it is thus...people buy Windows for WINDOWS PROGRAMS, those bazillion and one programs that run on X86 Windows, be it Quickbooks/Quicken, photoshop, games, or one of the literally millions of programs written for Windows over the years, which thanks to backwards compatibility mostly still run after all these years. There is NO POINT in WOA because it doesn't run Windows programs and never will! ARM and X86 is like the difference between a Yugo and a Mac truck, one is all about power saving and the other is power incarnate. But MSFT refuses to accept they are the new IBM and move on so instead of doing something smart, like say spinning off the mobile division so they can just call themselves Metro OS or something and sink or swim on their own, nope instead you have them royally shitting all over their sacred cow to try to force themselves into a market that has done moved on without them.
It won't work, it WILL fail, and all it will do is give them a shitpile of Win 8 discs to go with the Vista pile while folks just stick with Win 7. Just like IBM and the mainframe Windows desktops won't go away but they won't be replaced every 3 years like they were during the MHz wars. The only good thing that may come from win 8 is I doubt the board will put up with another Ballmer failfest, i don't care if he IS Gates' little buddy. hopefully he'll get a pink slip than they can put one of the office guys at the helm who will again focus on what they do best, which is build desktops for business and consumer PCs. And sorry about the length but this Dilbert-ish move really pisses me off and frankly all these anon shills MSFT has put out in force to try to make the shit smell of Win 8 into roses is frankly a little sickening. like we all haven't tried Win 8 CP already!

And that was it in a nutshell, some committee had a bunch of congress critters that decided that cars they wouldn't personally drive or own was "good enough for the peasants' because it gave them a good soundbite about being green so it didn't matter how much it failed, they would just keep throwing money at it.
The sad part is I do believe there is a way to SIGNIFICANTLY lower the gas usage in America, but that would mean abandoning this whole electric car nonsense and building instead a "people's car" which would be a 4 door and 2 door 4 cyl that got 40MPG and cost less than 10k. Then you could offer a cash for clunkers that would allow even the very poor to buy this new car. The average age of a car on the road is now 11 years simply because people can't afford no $40K+ new car in a dead economy with families to feed, even i am driving a 99 Ranger because my 2 boys matter to me more than replacing a running truck that is a gas hog.
But if they sold what i just described as well as say gave me $3k trade in for my ranger? i'd give up my 14MPG truck for the 40MPG people's car tomorrow. but instead they will push toys for rich folks to feel good about themselves, only there isn't enough people making over 100K a year that actually give a shit about being green for those to ever even break even. its a dead end, just like in the 90s, and we all know it. the only question is how much of OUR money will be pissed away on this before the government gets a clue and pulls the plug.

C64s and C128s. he even still has the code he wrote showing sat tracking that he wrote on a C128 as well as video of him with a really sharp robotic arm which again used the C128 as a controller.
One thing you really have to give Commodore credit for, thanks to their really great docs the Commodore machines were great for DIYers. he said when he got his he wrote some questions about the internal layout to commodore and one of the actual engineers that built the chips sent him a large diagram with personal notes on several points. man you just don't get stuff like that anymore, damned shame he lost it with his 128 when his storage building was robbed.

Okay NOW you've confused me. I get that you may not like the UI, or have issues with some designs they went for, hell i could write a list a mile long of things i found stupid from Win 3.x all the way through to Win 7. But "MS way or the highway"? Because frankly I've never seen an OS short of something you built yourself that allows for more modding than Windows. you can strip out whole subsystems, hell there is a hacker that has a version of Win 7 called Tiny7 that fits on a CD and uses 243Mb of RAM! you can even use third party tools like Aston to completely change the shell so it'll look and act like pretty much anything from Win98 to mac to KDE.
But you DO have to admit its pretty funny when we have the M$ brigade on here saying "Fuck $ony!" only to have to...use an M$ console. Like I said I no longer have a horse in this race, i got my family out when they started charging crazy prices for consoles and games and went exclusively PC gaming with GOG and Steam, but you just know it has to kill those ones that look at MSFT as the Empire to have to actually buy and use a MSFT product because if they don't they get assraped by Sony.

And name a single fucking part in the PS1 that wasn't a commercial off the shelf part, it just didn't use X86. you DO realize there are more parts made commercially than X86, yes? It was a MIPS CPU and the rest of the parts were being used in arcade machines at that time, hence COTS. feel free to look it up on wiki, they didn't start having their own silicon made until PS2, same as the Xbox was a Celeron and a slightly modded geforce 2. And I said the Saturn was NOT COTS but I guess you were too busy bouncing like an ADHD that I had missed a number that you missed that part.
Nope sorry and I should know as i actually had one of the very first consumer DVD burners, paid damned near $300, they all came with Nero which gave you the DVD playback software and so did the first integrated PCs. it wasn't until they came out with bare drives a couple of years later your situation could have been possible and by then both Media Player Classic and VLC both played DVD.

1.-if the patch comes out on linux it will be 14 pages of CLI and a tarball that will need a specific version of GCC, if they put it in the repo upon application it will throw you into single user mode on first boot. you DO know how to edit your config files, right?
2.-If the patch comes out on Windows it will take 2 hours to install, followed by an hour on the "waiting to shutdown' screen and ANOTHER hour on the "Please wait, configuring Windows" boot up and may God have mercy upon your tortured soul if the power goes out while that is happening!
3.-If the patch comes out on Apple it will be a year behind, but it will come in a cool silver look and everyone will talk about how truly wonderful it is. it doesn't actually patch anything "bad" it just brings sprinkles of Steve's magic to your poor pathetic life because "hey Apple never gets viruses' so everything you've read here? Oh don't get me wrong, Metro is a wonderful phone and tablet UI but that is the problem. the tablet UI simply doesn't work on the desktop nor the laptop as a vertical screen is literally painful to poke all day. it would be like being stuck in front of a kiosk all damned day expected to keep your arm out there poking.
Oh and you missed the biggest fail friend, that Metro UI? well guess what you can't turn it off so even if you instantly switch to the classic desktop Metro is running 24/7 sucking up your RAM and CPU cycles for all those damned smartphone "apps" that are constantly updating. Does that sound like a good thing to you? What do you think that is gonna do for battery life on laptops, which is outselling desktops by 2 to 1 and has been for over 3 years now?
The reason so many of us are hating metro is NOT because its new, i will be the first to say its a really nice tablet/smartphone OS. the reason we all hate it is a PC or laptop is NOT a "supergigantic smartphone" and treating it as such is stupid, its pointless, and it sucks. what works on a 4 inch screen simply doesn't work on a 24 inch screen and have every screen on the planet be a touchscreen (which again watch the preview videos and count how many times he says touchscreen) is beyond retarded. Tell me friend would YOU want to spend the day poking the desktop screen? how about your laptop, would you want to try poking at it all damned day?
Metro isn't the problem, its companies like MSFT and Canonical trying to make desktops and laptops into supergigantic smartphones that is the problem. the whole damned reason we HAVE tablets and smartphones is that certain forms and functions simply works well together!
Hell I paid $350 USD for my netbook before the flood and it comes with a dual core AMD APU that curb stomps what they are offering in the $500 ChromeBooks and that is including the cost of me upgrading to 8Gb of RAM and buying a carrying case!
How they can't smell the fail i just don't know, as here in the USA I have seen many dual core laptops for $279 after MIR and even quad cores for $400, and they expect people to pay $500+ USD for an Atom dual with Intel graphics? Really? Hell I can get the exact. same. specs. on a Win 7 Starter netbook for $250 right this minute at Walmart with NO MIR so I can literally buy TWO with a fully functional offline OS for the same price as their OS which does less and doesn't work without the net!
Frankly this is a serious WTF? moment for me, i honestly don't get how they think offering a less useful product on less powerful hardware for MORE money is a viable business plan. As i pointed out if you want a fast boot cloud OS you can get Expressgate in just about every ASUS laptop and netbook and those are starting at $200 cheaper (again for more power as their lowest models still have a dual AMD APU with more powerful graphics) and if that weren't enough there are several DIY full Linux editions like JoliCloud that will give you the whole net OS thing while still giving you offline functionality! It just doesn't make a damned lick of sense.
So if my choices were say...Stalin or pol pot, how EXACTLY would I being SUPPORTING evil by refusing to vote FOR evil? Both candidates ARE evil, they are sell outs, they don't care about this country, they ARE evil. Can we all just admit NOW that the PS4 was a failure? while i don't have a horse in this race (I'm happy with Steam and have moved both my boys onto gaming PCs) just as we saw Sony slaughter Sega with the PS1 and MSFT with the PS2 its pretty obvious that the PS4 can be called the loser at this point in the race with the crazy cheap X360 and Nintendo with the cool controller drinking their milkshake.
In a way the irony is pretty thick since they fell for the same stupid idea that destroyed Sega with the Saturn. if you look at the specs the Saturn was crazy powerful, one could argue it was more powerful than the PS1 which used COTS, but the design made it a royal bitch and a half to code for so nobody used even half the power, in fact IIRC less than a dozen games over its entire lifetime even used the second CPU for anything better than sound or game AI. When this is added to the fact that the more expensive and complex chip design meant that Sega couldn't lower the price like Sony could without bleeding to death just helped to dig the hole deeper.
Now look at the PS4, the Blu Ray caused them to take a HUGE bath on every unit sold (some estimates have the real cost of the PS4 at $1000 at launch, compared to $550 for the X360) and the cell not only made it a royal bitch and a half to code and port for but when combined with the BD made it even harder for Sony to lower the price without just gushing money. Compare this to the X360 which actually took the PS1 lessons to heart and was able to actually lower chip counts as it progressed thus making it profitable on every unit sold for more than 3 years.
I think the big question is not whether Sony will survive but whether they will have the money to make another powerful machine or not. if the rumors Ars technica have been printing are true you are talking about a mid range AMD Bobcat or Bulldozer APU that will be about the same power as you get in those $300 tigerdirect kits, not very impressive for a console, not if you want it to last 5 years which is the average lifespan historically. But one has to love the irony at all those here that hate Sony for being douches who then have to support MSFT which they can't stand either.

Seriously though Google just really doesn't seem to know what to actually do with ChromeOS. As you pointed out Linux has much more programs and Google just doesn't seem to grasp that not everywhere in the USA has high speed 24/7 connections. Finally what to me seems to be the biggest "WTF were they thinking" moment when it comes to ChromeOS....the price. ZOMFG have you seen how much the ones that have released ChromeOS netbooks want for the damned thing? Many are over $500! For an OS that is pretty much completely useless without the net and has less programs than both Linux and Windows AND if that wasn't enough to set off your WTF meter the specs on the hardware is beyond shitty. The ones I've seen have a shitty Atom CPU, shitty Intel graphics AND a crazy price...wow I wonder why those don't just fly off the shelves?
If you want a net based OS friends listen to old Hairy and just get a EEE PC netbook. Not only do they come with better hardware (ION or my favorite AMD Fusion) but you get Expressgate that is a NetOS that boots in less than 6 seconds and has tons of apps, both free and pay, in the ASUS appstore. Oh and you get Win 7 as well so you can still run any Windows programs if needed or if you prefer Linux or want to triple boot they are supported OOTB since IIRC Ubuntu 10.04.
This whole thing just seems more than a little pointless when compared to what is out there. Android is a hit so maybe they should either just stick with that or if they want to gain some real share subsidize the hw and get the price point down to around $100 which they could do with ARM, hell they probably could with X86 if they took a single core Bobcat as that would cut out the cost of the graphics chip. Don't view this as hatred for netOSes, on the contrary i just love Expressgate and can really see the appeal, but just not on weak hardware at crazy prices.

But its STILL running isn't it? Metro and all the tiles are STILL consuming memory and cycles, yes? this is gonna be horribly bad for laptops and netbooks as the last thing you need is an entire second UI running in the background sucking more power. If MSFT gives us a switch, hell I'll even take a GPO I can script, then I'll say metro isn't a problem. but as long as it continues putting a drain on the system like a dead elephant on your back then i'll call it a fail.
As someone who has run both the DP and CP I will be happy to list where metro would work great and where it would suck balls. Works great..1.-Smartphones, 2.-Tablets, 3.-Kitchen PCs, 4.-Kiosks, 5.-With parental controls and a 17 inch touchscreen it would also make a great "my first PC" kinda thing.
Where Win 8 sucks balls, 1.-Desktops, 2.-laptops, 3.-netbooks. Now you would think "hey they got 5 good and only 3 bad, that's good right?" wrong that's bad because the three that suck balls are the biggest sources of revenue for MSFT by a pretty damned wide margin.
What I don't understand is how in the fuck is MSFT of all people pulling an RDF over so many, surely to God they can't have hired THAT many shills, can they? Not saying one has to hate metro, quite the contrary if you have one of the 5 good uses its a wonderful smartphone OS, I'd rank it right there beside Android.
No the RDF is all these people that just swear to the almighty that we are gonna all run out and buy these overpriced touchscreens for jobs that make no fucking sense and the world is just gonna be "supergigantic smartphones" with desktops just being smartphones you can't carry. does that make ANY sense? Can you picture trying to do a complicated shopping by poking it with your finger? Spend two hours doing your taxes by poking? How about play Call of Duty whatever by poking at the bad guys?
If MSFT were to make Metro and easy to turn off option? be 110% behind them, they could have only one codebase and you could turn it on for touchscreens and off for everything else, THAT makes sense. I think this is wonderful news as KDE has been the saner choice as of late as far as stability, but if they are smart they will base it on Debian and NOT Ubuntu. it is pretty obvious to anyone with eyes that Canonical is floundering, trying to find a business model that will keep them alive and failing, first Netbook edition (coming waaaay past when that boat had sailed) and then trying to rip off of all people that stupid ass MSFT idea of pushing cell phone UIs on the desktop, hoping they can sell either Ubuntu TV (not a chance, Android and embedded Linux variants has that tied up) or Ubuntu smartphones (not a chance the market is too crowded as it is, its obvious it'll be owned by apple and Android) so they can expect quality to go down, bugs to go up, simply because they have ZERO real revenue stream and Shuttleworth has already said he's not sinking more of his money into Canonical.
Debian was here before Canonical and will be here in 3 years when i predict Canonical will either go cloud server OS only or close their doors. they have testing if they want to be cutting edge but IMHO basing it on stable would be the way to go, a rock solid never breaks KDE with a push towards user friendliness might be just the ticket to gain some share when MSFT shits out Win 8, aka "My God I want to be the CEO of Apple so bad it hurts!" If you actually watched their last presentation you would see why windows 8 is written in fail, they mention TOUCHSCREENS like 30 times! they even came up with ever more absurd scenarios of people getting touchscreens, buying touchscreen laptops (ignoring that the form factor is NOT touch friendly and that laptops are completely cutthroat and it would add a good $100+ to the cost) touchscreens for their desktops (when a 17 inch touchscreen is $300 and a 24 inch non touch is $145) and the final bust a gut moment was when he talked about how real time traders would be buying 3 screens...with a touchscreen in the middle! because when every second counts and one wrong trade can fuck your life up you WANT to you life to hinge on whether your greasy fingers hits the right spot LOL!

But those of us with brains know what the truth is and it is thus...people buy Windows for WINDOWS PROGRAMS, those bazillion and one programs that run on X86 Windows, be it Quickbooks/Quicken, photoshop, games, or one of the literally millions of programs written for Windows over the years, which thanks to backwards compatibility mostly still run after all these years. There is NO POINT in WOA because it doesn't run Windows programs and never will! ARM and X86 is like the difference between a Yugo and a Mac truck, one is all about power saving and the other is power incarnate. But MSFT refuses to accept they are the new IBM and move on so instead of doing something smart, like say spinning off the mobile division so they can just call themselves Metro OS or something and sink or swim on their own, nope instead you have them royally shitting all over their sacred cow to try to force themselves into a market that has done moved on without them.
It won't work, it WILL fail, and all it will do is give them a shitpile of Win 8 discs to go with the Vista pile while folks just stick with Win 7. The average age of a car on the road is now 11 years simply because people can't afford no $40K+ new car in a dead economy with families to feed, even i am driving a 99 Ranger because my 2 boys matter to me more than replacing a running truck that is a gas hog.
