But was it TraceMonkey (in FireFox 3.1) which is FAST or was it FireFox 3.0 with the old js-engine?

  3. This is so typical Apple, they've done it before on Apple 10.4.11 Update Can Brick Macs With Boot Camp · · Score: 2, Interesting

I use Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 for video editing (from the studio bundle). I don't need anything more - I normally use Linux, I only have my Mac so I can do video editing - that is it's pure purpose. Unfortunately I had this machine on the Internet (so it was easier to get texts and research problems etc) and one day a security update went into Tiger and WOOPS! Final Cut Pro doesn't work properly any more (can't take in video without heavy lag (unusable))!

So I use a day researching it, and in the end I find this on Apple's web page: Ah, something broke, you have to upgrade to Final Cut Pro 5. WTF? They want me to pay $much just to continue using my already expensive equipment, for what use? I do not need any of the new features in FCP 5 (or 6), I'm totally fine with 4.5.

So now I have to disconnect it from the Internet, take backup of everything dear, wipe the thing clean and install everything from scratch. Gah, so stupid. Apple is a bad company like all companies. They shit at you while they can.

First thing I thought about seeing that headline was Cinelerra. The CV-team is trying the impossible; starting Cinelerra3. Everybody is skeptic because it's an enormous project; but with time and developers it could go.

I really want it to succeed; (I'm using Final Cut now, have to use a mac) so that would be one project in need of resources. :-)

  5. More than two people using Dvorak on Is DVORAK Gaining Traction Among Coders? · · Score: 1

I'm from Norway, and yes there is a norwegian Dvorak-layout. They found out norwegian most used letters were so close to english - that it would be beneficial to use the same layout (only with some minor arrangements).

You only say it to provoke; but there is many people who are using Dvorak. It is not unheard of at all. I knew 4 people before I switched, now I know many. A few days ago a guy in my computer society at the University tried my computer, and quickly switched to Dvorak when he saw echo became .jdc.

And fast typing isn't why I use Dvorak. It's because it puts much less strain on the hands, that's the best part of Dvorak (most Dvorak-users agree).

  6. This is wrong, I use US Dvorak layout in Norwegian on Is DVORAK Gaining Traction Among Coders? · · Score: 2, Informative

After considering switching for a long time, I finally made the jump. I had an image of the layout on-screen and used only that for learning where the keys were. After a week, the speed was OK, after two weeks I was at my former Qwerty-speed but with much less finger- and hand-movement. I tell you; Norwegian and the other Scandinavian languages work great with US layout Dvorak (of course with beloved extra characters (æøå for .no)). Anyway, if your language is further away from english - then you should have your own layout. French has it own Dvorak layout, so they can still type with less strain on hands. And to people saying it's an urban myth, well - they're wrong - you might not be a better typist by switching, but you do move your hands considerable less and that is really nice. I type much text, if I use Qwerty - I can feel how much quicker my hands get weary.

With the usage of JPEG2000-ish compression for the files used in new Digital Cinema Initiative; I would guess they could bump the price up; they will have people to pay the license anyway. With a bigger dependance on JPEG2000, we might see a new GIF-problem. The new MS-format might be worse though. We know their strategies, don't we? :-)

No, actually, he doesn't. He doesn't talk about Windows at all in fact! He talks about open source always going for the better. So why'o'why shouldn't we have a better implementation and printingsystem than Windows?

Do you mean we should wait until Windows gets this (or any other) feature and then implement it by copying the exact same behaviour? -- Well, you can do that - but I actually think it's a good thing getting cups better than any other printingsystem! And also doing that first.

With opinions like that floating around, no wonder people say that FOSS is only copying properitary software.

However, some sites doesn't have a favicon, then I just gimp one pretty quick (usually based on the logo of the page) and use that using the favicon picker extension. Freedom here, freedom there. USA is ruled by big companies and quite frankly I can't see how you can call being fooled by corrupt media and ruled by big oil companies is being free. Freedom of speech is something we've got in most western countries, while america actually had slaves long after most other countries got rid of it. Freedom is not the right to do what you want, altough the death-by-gun-statistics for the US might prove that the inhabitants think otherwise. - Nazi-stuff isn't forbidden in my country (Norway), but acting on rasicm is (that includes saying things). I beleive the freedom to opress people as you talk about is not a real freedom at all. It is just confused way beyond. Why should one really have the right to opress other peoples freedom? America is jumping off a cliff, - too bad Norway's more or less capitalistic government tends to follow the US and not the people living in the country (luckily, we've got an election this year - a democratic one where each vote counts, not like where the winner in a state gets all the votes for that area). I fail to see your reasoning; why shouldn't everyone be allowed to have biochemical and nuclear weapons then, since all of this is magically linked to the right to say stuff?
