My freshman year of undergrad was during 1999. The height of napster and all that. A month into the first semester the network was all but done. We were the first class (or so I was told by a network guy) to have a signifigent majority have their own computers. My sophmore and last year on campus I might as well have been on a 56k. Moved off campus and got cable and havent looked back.
What im trying to say is that im suprised that more schools networks havent gone down. I know alot of schools cap bandwith now Good for them for protecting their students though. Colleges basically rape their students for money and do little else.
Thats great and all but none of us will be on anything like that for years. If Time Warner had that here they would charge one child a month. You would need 12 wives just to cover your internet bill.
I just dont get all the jesus freaks out there. These bills arent asking for anything that straight people take for granted every day. So because im not gay I get more benefits than my gay friends. Insanity in 2005. This is not 1154.
Didnt Bush have an ipod full of music according to a recent article. His aid claims he filled it up at the itunes store. Which means A) Its just illegal copies according to this law and he should go to jail B) He actually did pay for it which probably means we the taxpayers paid for it. Either way let him be the first imprisioned under this law.
Back during my undergrad years before we had ipods i would listen to a "walkman" and take a test. I would finish before everyone else in the class and they would give me strange looks. Good times.
I grew up near NYC and have rode the subways often enough. When I was growing up during the 80s you would not even think of going into a subway without a cache of small arms at your disposal. The city has changed alot though lately. Is it safer? Yes Do muggings still happen? Yes. Also they dont make the news anymore.
I think worrying about hackers is a little silly. And terrorists have literally thousands of targets that would be better in NYC.
I think it does deminish safety on the trains. The conductors have a radio that if something happens on the train police can be waiting at the next stop.
As far as what I think. When your on the train you dont care what is making it go as long as its on time and not out of control and on fire.

You would not have to worry about the US going after you for running a proxy server overseas. When in whatever country it is you are in you are subject to their laws. One of the only exceptions for US citizens is it is not illegal to go abroad for the purpose of having sex with underage children. I saw something really messed up a while ago. People would run "tours" of southeast asia where it was basically a front for child prostitution.
While I see the point that the companies have in not wanting to hire former virus writters on their payroll they really dont have any choice. The limitation is your average straight out of college IT person is trained to think a certain way. In a way they lack the imagination for lack of a better word that the writters have. So unless the formally trained people get some secondary shady education then they will probably never be as good or effective as the virus writters. On the other hand unless they keep their pulse on the vein of what is going on then they will become out of touch and loose that edge very quickly.
The mystery is gone forever now. I enjoyed standing over my defeated enemies wondering EXZACTLY what made their head fall off. Poor show slashdot.
Would you expect anything less from the college that inspired animal house?

People with a small penis will be killed so there is no need for "Enhancement" And I will personally handle all loans and mortgage transactions.
