I work in an environment with a lot of macs around. It would be nice to get some Be. But, once again it seems the problem is Apple's insistance on proprietary, difficult to upgrade, essentially 3 year disposable computers. It is unfortunate, really. -- Moondog
Linux is more a play thing for IT Students... (paraphrase). Independent of whether this is true, I think the SGI move toward linux is going to continue to change all minds on that statement. -- Moondog
Ignorant quest. -Where does GNU get their funding?

I don't know where gnu gets their funding, to support development. Is this all an academic thing? -- Moondog
I know a lot of people who use accounting software such as quickbooks on windows. It would be great to see software like that out for linux. I'm sure there would be demand out there. -- Moondog
Being a grad student in biotech, that's great to hear. But I'm not sure I follow the prediction that computer jobs are going to decline under biotechnology jobs. Biotech is a very specialized field, whereas computers are a tool, that can be applied to many fields..... (just my.02) -- Moondog
I'm a little concerned about how much affect congress initiatives on this subject will really have. When I went to high school we got our first set of computers (late 80's - PS/2's), and nobody really used 'em except us geeks during lunch. They've got to make sure the teachers are there and money is there. Science is much more complicated. Most science graduates go into industry, cause that's where the money is. -- Moondog
This is pretty interesting stuff, but lets not get too excited about what it can and can't tell us. Sometimes, the media tends to get a bit over excited about basic science steps, claiming they are leaps. -- Moondog

Next they're going to change the name of rpm to lpm, and release red hat only code....
