  1. Re:suing? on RAMBUS Taking SDRAM Patent To Court · · Score: 1

Yeah, this scares me. These "intellectual property companies", not to mention rambus and the rest, have a lot to lose from the patent reform that we all keep crying out for. The IP companies, in particular, rely on the existence of patent law for their very existence. Who knows what they would do to stop patent reform...

Apart from the fact that it will be another senseless killing, I can't wait for some guy to go out and kill some people and claim that this very game made him do it. That'll produce some interesting effects.

When I read the words "Revenge of the Nerds" in one of the replies to this article, I realised something. The stereotype protrayed by this "psychologist" is about 20 years old.

I'm wondering, is it possible that society has started to accept the Nerd (probably as a result of the IT revolution), and because of this, individual nerds are feeling more accepted and thus becoming a lot less like this stereotype, and are gaining the confidence to be seen more like the intelligent, insightful and interesting people they really are?

    Or something like that? :)

    1. Suppose I create something using a device I created myself that uses patented technology, but I only share/sell/etc the products of that device? e.g. suppose I write a little GIF library of my own and use it to create some images for my web site, but don't give the library away to anyone in any form? Am I then liable?
    2. This is just an idea, but how about proposing that patents can only be enforced on people who use patented technology for profit? This would relieve OSS, acedemic work etc. Some clause would have to be thrown in to cover people who use OSS, as opposed to those who write it.

I've heard that you can kill yourself from OD'ing on caffiene, but I can't remember the figure. Are there any other negatie effects besides OD'ing and teste shrinkage? Does it shorted one's life expectancy?

We are required to wear helmets when riding bycicles or motorcycles. We are required to take out 3rd party compulsory insurance with any vehicle we purchase. We are required to invest in a super fund through our entire career. And now we are required to prevent ourselves from seeing material that some "authority" might label "inapprorpriate".

How much of this happens in the US?
