    "The difference is substantial--C++ is driven by a philosophy of efficiency and compatibility" The difference is that C++ is driven by buzzword whores and 2 bit hacks who had to work 15 years to have any sort of compatibility. And Objective-C is just as efficient as C++. In fact, studies show that Objective-C programs have an incredibly lower footprint that your precious c++. And your entire systems level argument is complete crap. Darwin has objective-c frameworks for "systems-level" interaction.
