The overseas Yahoo boards still support chat. Actually, I find this to be more than a bit ironic.
This "Internet" generation we have now makes me wonder about the pseudo-techno-public at large, is the population at large just a mass of hate and fear mongering rioters in stasis? Are they just venting, waiting for a venue?
We talk about free speech here, but I find much more "Free" in other places.
My old iSight camera (which is rumored to be discontinued soon) has a handy dandy shutter built in! And a way better microphone than the internal POS in my 15inch PPC/PB.
I somehow broke the display on my girlfriends 12inch iBook last year, er, well it just got kinda knocked of the desk (not much room in a typical studio apartment in Tokyo). I wanted to buy her a new Apple laptop, but they all have a camera that you can't physically turn off. The last thing in the world I want is for someone to see my future wife running around in her un-mentionables. Knowing her technical ability to shut off the camera, or simply remember to cover it up I opted to replace the lcd, and send an external iSight.
Funny thing, it was cheaper to put it in a box, send it home to the states, fix and ship back to her. Labor rates over there are silly stupid, but parts are really easy to find. I love otaku-land (akihabara) for parts.
A simple shutter would be really welcome, and would likely be a simple replacement bezel swap.
Yeah, you hit the nail on the head.
I'm a refugee of the lackluster consoles too.
Hell, I still pull out the SNES just for the Zelda experience.
Games these days have too much content, and with that comes too much investment of time for the folks who can really afford to purchase the systems and games.
I could really care less about the blu-ray whatever, or HD-dvd. Heck I have an HDTV sitting in my front room that STILL only recieves signal on four channels. two of them are dupes!
Local HD sucks, it's not worth the investement..
I digress..
Anyhow, I'm bringing up "Invest" alot, and that is what the beancountes at Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo should pay attention to.
There is a finite amount expendible cash to throw around for us working stiffs.
Why would I want to purchase my HD/BLU ray player in a gaming console? Why would I spend 600 dollars on a less than useful (locked in) computer system to play games?
Why the hell do I want to spend money on "point" cards? Let me just buy the games and content I want.
Hell, make the games easy to use, easy to learn, and maximize my enjoyment. I am the customer after all.
But go ahead and market shit I really have no desire for, I still have that SNES in the upstairs office that the kids still love to play. I still have that Xbox, made to play videos from the hard disk drive, because the kids seem to destroy dvd's on sight, some weird genetic tech angst.
When I have couples over, we even have been known to break out the 2600 just for some crazy circus atari! That is classic fun for my age group of friends. It's easy enough for everyone to have some fun. Xbox controllers are good for triple jointed kids. I guess you could say that the ps/2 controller is in the same boat.
Make the stuff you want to make, and I guess I'll either skip on it, or buy it 2nd hand and make it do what I want it to do.
$600 bucks was more than what I paid for my 1st car for crying out loud.
Get with the picture guys.
Funny..
