    if you read this replies title you may get the impression that i am pro-american. what i actually mean is that it would not surprise me in the least if the agencies who put forward the patriot act knew exactly what they were doing. I am a brit (currently sat in a leicester uni computer lab) and as such i dont claim to know everything about the U.S. government legal system, however i saw the Micheal Moore fil Fahrenheit 911 a few nights ago and was astounded by the fact that most acts are not even read before they get passed. I firmly believe that those who wrote the patriot act knew this perfectly well and so wrote their own agenda into it hidden behind a shollow mask of "security" we can never really know for sure WHY they want to read canadian mail but it is more than likely not too far from the fact that they believe knowledge is power...and the patriot act is just another way for them to gain power!
