(leave us alone, so our users can keep ripping artists off)

While I realize you are using this as Napster's defense. Isn't it actually the record industry that is ripping off artists?

Wouldn't you rather have a place where an artist can post their music and make 90% of the profits as opposed to now where they make crap? Is it a dollar for every CD?

Music is free and what you pay for is packaging.

What need to happens is the record industry needs to realize that their revenue is ending. Its a new era and if they don't think fast they are going to be out of luck.

I wish the napster people would wise up and make napster a pay service. They could give money to artists based on downloads. I bet that would really piss off the RIAA, the artists making all the money.

I think the post did just what it intended. A lot more eyeballs saw the ads that pay Andover and the salaries of the people behind the scenes.

Slashdot is a business. If posting a news item about Star Wars gets people to read more AND gets hits, then guess what......they are going to post it.

BTW, it isn't that SLASHDOT SUCKS, its SLASHDOT SOLD OUT.

Ahhh....But did you catch the lines about the 100Mbit ethernet port and the choice of HD's?

I would by this thing if it was reasonbly priced for the MP3 possiblities alone. I want a box that is ethernet ready and dedicated to storing my music collection. If I could use it to surf too, then that's a bonus.

I think the price is going to be an issue.

Yeah, Yeah, I could build one myself, but who has time. I dig the look of the thing and the compact size.

What qualificaiton do you have to back up your claim of being a security expert? Do you have any degrees? Do you have any certifications? How many years have you been a "Security Expert"? Are there any REAL companies that have used you for security advice?

If you have no answers for these then, What do you think makes a security expert? Is it just claiming that you are good enough?

I think this is a great commentary on how influencial Slashdot is becoming in mainstream media. It has evolved from nerd hang out to the place to see what is on the cutting edge. Something that created the dreaded Slashdot effect produced an article that was written by hundreds of people. The ultimate in bringing ideas together.

The future will only bring more of this type of group editing to the forefront of the media. I look forward to being part of it.

Kudos to Jane's for having the balls to do this and congrats to the REAL experts gettting some recognition.
