  1. Re:Linux, ughh on Linux to Fragment? · · Score: 1

I guess that quote is true if your talking about the "free as in beer" cost of linux. But that's not what makes the OS attractive, it's the "free as in speech" aspect. And that makes linux free no matter how long you spend with it or how much you pay for a copy of it.

I think the band you're thinking of is Iron Maiden. I'm pretty sure there are no Metallica songs by that title. There is however, a song and an album by Maiden.

"no one who rips off a musician by ordering their CD through a CD club"

Please tell me this statment isn't serious. I'm so sure that people that order CD's from a club are doing it with the express purpose of ripping off musicians .

  4. deja vu on Debunking The Need For 200FPS · · Score: 1

I seem to remember this argument about 2 or 3 years ago. About the time the voodoo2 SLI setup was popular. I remember articles saying everything over 30 FPS is a waste. The people that write these stupid articles should take a look at the drivel that people before them have written.

  5. Re:I don't understand on UK Employers May Read Employees' Mail · · Score: 1

Do you seriously think that employees are waiting until their break times before sending personal email? That they only surf the 'net while on breaks?

If so you are in serious need of a reality check

  6. I don't understand on UK Employers May Read Employees' Mail · · Score: 2

"Campaigners say the rules, under the new Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act, are an assault on personal privacy"

How is this an assault on PERSONAL PRIVACY? You are sending mail and surfing while on company time and you whine because your employer wants to see how you are using it's resources. If this were the government monitoring it's citizens I could understand, but not a company monitoring it's employees.

Person too lazy to change his prefs: "I get enough crap about the US elections on TV these days... and to tell you the truth, I couldn't care less... "

CmdrTaco: "And if you don't care about the election, login and disable the United States topic and you'll be free from this. "

If you don't live in the US why do you have the US topic enabled?

I love it when people that don't live in the US whine about the US-centric slant to the news here. Get over it! I don't really care what is happening in (anywhere not in the US) unless it affects my gas prices. If there was a friggin euro topic I'd disable it faster than I disabled Katz.

Yeah, taking a crapshoot on the life of your child to bring the rest of your family "closer together" sounds like a real good idea. Have you ever undergone chemo? It's not fun. I would go to _any_ length to spare my children that, and too bad if it goes against this society's outdated puritan values.

  10. Re:Amen - these guys are a bunch of lightweights on IT Stress In The Workplace · · Score: 1

I've never spent a day on a heavy construction site. But I have worked my share of menial shitty jobs. The whole idea that construction is a 'real job' while computer jobs aren't is ludicrous. It's like the people with the menial jobs are saying: "at lease I have a REAL job" to make themselves feel better.

  11. Re:Amen - these guys are a bunch of lightweights on IT Stress In The Workplace · · Score: 1

I guess we should all be subjected to flogging and other forms of torture so we know what a blessing a normal life is. Or perhaps we should be forced to live in a cardboard box under a bridge so we can appreciate our homes. How is construction a 'real' job and one where you sit on your arse coding isn't? IF YOU'RE GETTING PAID FOR IT, IT'S A REAL JOB.

What is the legality of downloading a copy of an album that you have on cassette (or even 8 track)? is this considered fair use or space shifting?. 16. format restrictions on Is SDMI a Consumer's Nightmare? · · Score: 4

Where do you draw the line between protecting the musician's interests and giving the consumers value for what they pay for? This is kind of like buying a car and being told that you couldn't drive it at night or on certain roads. There is no way I would pay money for digital music with these kind of restrictions.
