It is based on a recent version of the kernel and has good support for hardware RAID controllers and Gigabit NICs. The cost is very reasonable. If you don't want to spend the bucks for hardware RAID, it also supports once-per-day disk mirroring. I'm using it with an old Pentium III box with excellent results.
Kerio *does* make an excellent firewall product for Windows servers (Kerio Server Firewall). It is pricey, however, and for the same or less money you could install a Smoothwall box.
There's another rarely-discussed feature of the iPod Photo, made possible because of the higher screen resolution. When browsing by artist, album, etc., the menu entries scroll horizontally if they are too large to fit on the screen (which is almost always the case). A small detail, but very useful to me.
That being said, my main reason for purchasing one is the ability to unload photos from my digital camera while on vacation, since I don't carry a laptop.
