windows doesn't "automatically" install updates. It will automatically download them. IF you select the automatic updates in the setup. So to install them, you to tell it to install them. It takes user interaction. This isn't OUT OF THE BOX. out of the box would be no user interaction, save for installing the os. i don't want to just jump on the "hate windows" bandwagon, (surprise, i am a gamer, i use windows) but this wasn't done uniformly
