    Well, this javascript whatever problem is nothing to play with :) I had to force quit Safari since that popup window was huge and Safari kind of lost its mind.

    I tried enter and esc keys.

    I see japanese text in that window :)

    I love to joke with windows exploits, this time I feel like joked. I mean, if there was a form waiting to "submit" etc, it would be gone now.

    The sad thing is; the artists have no clue what the hell is a "rootkit". I mean, a musician should know anything else than ProTools? :)

    Now, nobody buys the bands CD because of "virus" (Joe public). It has nothing to do with artistic stuff or taste of music. Plain technological vandal geeky stuff hitting art.

    Really funny thing is, they are same guys coded Konfabulator which is acquired by Yahoo!

    I am not getting into that fight but it is widely said, the Tiger Dashboard is Konfabulator. E.g. Apple basically stole it.
    Well, it became freeware OS X/Win32 tool in hands of a giant like Yahoo, I think everyone is happy.

    Speaking from Mac, they do nothing.

    Macromedia Flash is using 60% of CPU which is blamed to browser user is using on OS X, the OS having Worlds most advanced 2d acceleration frameworks.

    As it is a browser plugin, the browser what user uses gets the blame. Also yes, I am speaking about the 8.x version. If Flash uses 60% CPU , the browser (e.g. firefox) shows using 60% cpu.

    Windows 3.1 was designed not to work right with DR DOS.

    The problem with "Rosetta" is: There is no Altivec support as folding@home has.

    Right, "Tinker" has no Altivec too but GROMACS has amazing speed increase on Altivec enabled macs.

    Reading the article, one thing didn't surprise me at all:

    "Weather Underground uses a trimmed-down version of Slackware, one of the only distributions of Linux available in the mid-1990s when Schwerzler was at U-M. In addition, the servers have no hard drives and support Preboot Execution Environment boot, which means they are configurable and deployable via the network"

    You should read rest of the article about the stuff they do there to manage such amounts of data. "No bullshit" attitude of Slackware helps? I bet!

    They theoretically support IMAP 4 and POP3 too but for some reason I really don't know, people on Exchange servers either uses Outlook, Entourage or licensed (?) stuff like Apple OS X Mail to get their mail from Exchange servers.

    There is a trick somewhere. I am totally clueless about the corporate networks but I can easily see from outside.

    Skype, built on closed source , non standard protocols acquired by a huge company gets Slashdot community support.

    Yes, those masses also decided to use Windows.

    Keep with the masses, I stay on open protocols.

    I am not a big open source advocate but for communications, there SHOULD be open protocols not controlled by some company.

    I think Gizmo project does deserve the support. http://www.gizmoproject.com/ . It is built on open, tested protocols such as REAL SIP. Skype has nothing to do with SIP as parent reminds,

    This time, I won't comment about Kazaa :)

    Oh no problem. Microsoft tricks companies too bad about it, there are many companies believing their "mac compatible" word, after 100 feedbacks , they switch to Helix server (real server)

    I personally know a huge TV station lived it.

    Quicktime server can get real pricey btw :)

    Whatever Microsoft claims, Windows Media does NOT offer compatibility in OS X.

    Yes, official client from Microsoft.

    It already has problems with advanced embedded stuff in web pages, I don't know how DRM will perform.

    For Macintosh, the professionally coded streaming solution everyone chooses is: Realplayer10

    Real player 10 is nothing to be confused with windows versions,especially old ones which everyone claims to include spyware.

    It is a goodly coded multimedia streaming client which is written in Cocoa and has 80% of code from Helix opensource project.

    I am not a Microsoft hater, their stuff is good on mac but if their plugin manages to crash my browser, doesn't work without deleting preferences after tiger upgrade, I am against it.

    No, Kazaa was always adware and spyware. The current practices of any company today DOES NOT MATTER as average computer user now knows what spyware is and software giants like Microsoft offer anti spyware for free.

    Nowadays companies feeding the worst spyware to people _had to_ remove spyware from their bundles as it became a security concern even NSA cares about. Of course, their PR department works very fine, now they brag about being "spyware free!".

    I am always concerned about the practices of companies _before_ users (and some developers!) became aware of what those "extra apps" do! I know a few developers who did not have a clue what "gator" etc did, they tricked them it provides "advertising banner only".

    Kazaa was never a "clean" and trust-able application.

    It's not very Off topic anyway.

    They made World standard SIP protocol distributed in an open source way.

    Support is plain amazing, they replied to my crash report (which _I_ included my mail) in 20 minutes which shocked me.

    I wonder if /. geeks have Kazaa installed in their machines as it's coming from same company? Right, eBay purchased them, code is still same, closed source.

    Shows a turkish betting ad in their product page. Um, betting in foreign sites is kind of "grey" matter in Turkey which many banks won't allow.

    No, reason is not our islamic wannabe govt. It is that, there is already a betting service in Turkey which is bound by law and governed perfectly. What I understand is, Kazaa did not change at all. Always dark stuff...

    The problem is, I don't have any respect to Skype founder which is responsible for most clever, evil spyware on Earth, Kazaa.

    A G5 has 2 64bit RISC processors (now count as 4 as dual core ships) 1.33 Ghz system bus, 7 software (kernel) controlled fans which cools ahead of CPU load and that case isn't designed to look beautiful, it has Porsche, Ferrari level aerodynamics design just to keep that workstation cool and silent.

    When first Intel Mac ships, it will only be a "cool case" I agree. Or that "thing" they ship to developers, is just a sad backwards Pentium 4 system sits in a G5 case.

    When people speaking about losing uniqueness, we speak about that.

    It will be really hard to sell a Intel workstation 30% higher price not running every Intel software out there. Unless game, pro multimedia developers magically give up DirectX.

    When first Mactel ships, everyone can build a better box than Apple with the same amount of money. If AMD 64 is chosen, it would be even more modern.

    Apple lost the thing making it unique. PowerPC architecture.

    Hope they make it at least like Asus to update BIOS, you know, effortless, in OS GUI. They selected the backwards architecture having roots in 1980's.

    It will be really hard for Apple to tell why same cpu, same hardware costs 30% higher than "Dell PC" especially while Dell runs 90% more software and game titles.

    Apple jumped to Intel wagon, nobody can call anyone a "Dell troll", "Dell lamer" or something. It is the Steve Jobs started to compare stupid mhz levels while even Intel started to get away from Mhz numbers themselves.

    I wouldn't run OS X on a Intel machine while perfectly compatible XP exists. Remember next version of Windows will come that time too.

    I run OS X because I purchased a G5 PowerPC. Even if they remove benchmarks from their pages, it does not matter, I am still happy with 1600 mhz, lowest G5 ever with a Pentium 4 along with its RDRAM modules in my closet.

    Since 2003...

    It is Apple to blame. From now on, everyone can compare performance AND PRICE to Apple.

    Ajax is a cleaner brand in Europe as far as I know. I clean my monitor with it :)

    There is also a soccer team, very famous named "Ajax" from Holland.

    So, a very advanced female coder saying she is doing Ajax for work will be misunderstood.

    Super user scheme? Well, many gives password to install p2p applications already.

    It's just more profitable to spy windows right now.
