I ahve yet to see that anyone has mentioned the real issue regarding the "speed" of a DSL or cable modem broadband connection. If you read the fine print and some of the not so fine print you just might notice that the advertised speeds are considered "Best Effort" speeds.

The actual speed experienced by customers is based on DSL sync rate and may vary and depends on several factors including customer location, destination on the Internet, traffic on the Internet, interference with high frequency spectrum on the customer's telephone line, etc. Wireless connections are subject to varying speeds based on factors such as: proximity to the wireless gateway, or interference from other devices. No minimum level of speed is guaranteed.
