why shouldn't IE be able to view word documents? christ! they are both Microsoft products. microsoft developed the file format. so why shouldnt they be able to implement the format anywhere they want in their software?
I dont understand how being able to view something in IE hurts anyone.
oh, I am posting this from netscape 4.5 running on linux on a old pentium. i have 3 linux servers running under by control. so i am not MS-biased. I just don't understand why people have problems with microsoft adding features to their software.
ugh. i am not even going to get started on the stupidity of this whole microsoft bullshit anti-trust lawsuit.
nonsense. why pay $6 - $7 for 2 songs on a single (which probably doesnt have as much cover art, JC liners, etc, as the full album) when you can pay $16-$20 for 12-20 songs? That doesnt make sense.
Especially in today's case, where many album buys are a gamble, and you may as well spend the extra couple of bucks to see if you can get some more music that you like.
as a rather intelligent 16 year old, i completely agree with you. the people that talk down to people that are younger then they are are hypocrits.
how many of you who are complaining about teenagers also shared experiences over in the hellmouth discussion? you probably bitched about the stereotypes people put on you...why are you doing it to us?
oh and just because you have a nice looking degree that you can put on your resume doesnt mean you know anything. it just means you paid some money to sit through some classes to have someone else tell you that you know something. the MCSE is a degree, right? how many people on/. have complained that MCSEs dont know anything? yeah thats what i thought
experience and a portfolio is the only way to truely find out if someone knows what they are doing. i have developed a few web sites in my time (and i am only 16!) my current project for school is called My.AlWood (AlWood High School is my high school) It will let students and teachers check via the web their schedules at school. it displays assignments and extracurriculars. it runs on linux with apache 1.3.9 and PHP4. the database is postgresql. the source code is there for people to look at and may eventually be GNU-licensed. i am not going to post the site URL here b/c the server is an old Macintosh. if anyone wants to know, you can figure it out from the DNS records for the holt.henry.il.us domain or you can just email me and ask!
give the younger set a chance, guys. we really arent so bad.
the way things like this work is that the country that invents the technology and exports the concepts to the rest of the world doesnt have to identify itself. that is why there is a US flag or the letters USA on all USA stamps. the same goes for every other country, except the UK. they invented stamps, so they dont have to identify themselves
we in the USA invented the internet so we dont have to identify ourselves. other countrys do.
besides its really not that big of a deal. if you are that upset about it you must have some sort of superiority complex or something
I don't know...are you sure about that FOIA thing? I live here in Illinois, and the big newspaper organization that the article talked about just recently did a big "investigative report" on how easy it was for regular people to get information using the FOIA. Now unless I am mistaken and IL has its own FOIA, the requests the reporters made to local DA's offices using the FOIA would not qualify under your statement.
FYI, the reporters did not identify themselves as reporters until after their requests were fulfilled. and unfortunately it was hard for them to get their requests fulfilled in about half the cases throughout the state.
I did the sections on the school board, and the history classes. check out the school board stuff...a little out of date now (b/c i have better things to do then update it;-) ) but the graphics are pretty neat looking, if i do say so myself.
.net because the k12.il.us thing is too hard for most people who are computer illiterate to remember..net because the.com is taken by a florist..net because we wanted it rather than.org.
.org is now used by an alumni of alwood high organization.
and to think...we graduate under 50 kids a year heh heh...an alumni organization!
the problem is that if the WINE people just copy and paste MS's code into WINE we run in to the same unstability that we had before. they need to be careful that they use MS's code as a reference and not copy paste at all. this might speed up WINE development, but at what expense?
under supervision i would also trust said children with said items
in rural areas kids start driving with their parents at the age of 12 or younger. my parents dont like guns, so i dont know if a lot of these young kids started with guns at that age, but it wouldnt surprize me.
there arent many murders out here in the middle of nowhere, and the accident rate is (it seems to me anyway, i dont have any statitisics here) pretty low as well.
you cant say ok 16 years from the day you were born you suddenly become mature enough to drive. it works ok when dealing with large numbers of people (i.e. on a state level) but in most individual cases is simply is dumb. go figure...the day before i turn 16, i cant legally drive...one day later i am suddenly good to go. go figure.

I wonder whose decision it was to make the football coach a computer programming teacher.
someone tell me why football coaches are so often picked on here? the tech coordinator at our school is also my favorite teacher, and he used to be the football coach. he's also a very intelligent guy. go figure, huh?
i dont play football either...in fact i get a whole load of shit for playing golf...even one of the PE teachers says "we shouldnt have a golf team because it takes away from football" this is at a school of 168 total 9-12grade enrollment. but there is nothing inheriently wrong with football coaches. or most other things.
I am going to high school in rural Illinois (school enrollment - 168) and I am liking it. I meet a few of those guidelines, i skipped a grade, i play quake, i hack, etc. i am a geek. i am also a basketball player.
i was picked on a lot when i was in 3rd-8th grade...off and on. rollercoaster comes to mind, a few specific examples come to mind. life wasnt THAT bad...i was never beaten up, for example. but words certainly can hurt...many of the/.ers know that.
what happened to make high school better? i joined the scholastic bowl team and 3 seniors (who hated me at the beginning of the year) saw i wasnt so bad...i am great friends with them now. i hated them as much as they hated me before freshmen year because of what they said. but i was nice to them...i guess they gave me a chance. now i am in their position and i am trying to do the same for the freshmen and such now.
those people who said that the key was showing those who are hurting that someone cares are right. i was lucky to come from a stable home...both my parents love me very much, dont drink, dont do anything bad, and are still together. i saw they loved me. that helped. those three seniors started to respect me and like me...so others did.
if you are in the position to show someone that life gets better...DO IT. DO IT NOW. i guarentee it will help that person, even if its small its worth it.
thank you, guys, who befriended me a couple of years ago. you have no idea what that meant.
hell no...who would pump up the standardized testing scores? if the brains left then our schools would appear to be in a lot worse shape then they already appear
the higher the test scores the better the teachers and admins look...i happen to like most of the teachers and admins at my school but from what i hear they love it when the scores come back "above state average" at least for the school
Call me stupid, but what exactly is endian-ness? What are endians? I mean I see the endian check anytime (it seems) i compile a prog in linux and just kinda ignored it since everything usually works
