  1. Scientific Linux on Ask Slashdot: Best Linux Distro For Computational Cluster? · · Score: 1

After 7 years working at CERN on the GRID project for LHC, i would recommand scientific linux, the target of this distro is to run the largest GRID in the world gLite on a free redhat, you have also in the EPEL repository many tools for large scale computing maintain by the GRID team in CERN and Fermilab.

It is a remark unuseful. If you take the middleware i work on.
I need 20 min to install 50 machines when other admins need 3 days to have 5 machines working correctly.

If your sysadmin know the system correctly the system few templates and pxe and the installation problem does not exist anymore.

I understand completely the usage of a very secure system in the business of Price Water House.

  3. For people who want to ask details on Virtual Grid Supercomputer Goes (Partly) Online · · Score: 1

I am working on the group that work on the Grid behing the LHC. The name of this Grid is LCG.

    A grid is :
    + connectionn between large cluster
    + distributed mass storage system
+ dynamic reallocation of the ressources
+ And lot of other services for transparent usage of ressource trough the world.

If you want precise url to get info read this :
    LCG (itself) : http://cern.ch/lcg/
Eu Datagrid (European Grid Software use in LCG) :
    http://eu-datagrid.web.cern.
    Globus Toolkit : http://globus.org/

If you need other info ask (i will try to follow).

PS : Cern create http protocol.
Datagrid was long and hard to devellop, but the actual result is *good*.
