So to start at boot I have to figure out this whole chmod 755 rc.whatever thing? Yep too difficult, what I really need is some extremely bloated, one size fits all pile of crap that only a machine can edit. BTW cron works just fine. If it doesn't work its usually caused by a malfunction in the script its told to run. Cron is just fine, however many of the people using it are severely b0rked.

It is a well established fact that the 2.6 kernel is fatter than the 2.4 dumbass. the point is for some people thats ok (the kind of people who run KDE in all its lard ass, RAM chewing glory) and for some of us its just not acceptable.

Anyone want an example of unstable and b0rked? Not a problem. All my systems from my P133 all the way up to my AMD 2800+ are still running 2.4 kernels. My first experience with 2.6 just happened to be on an Intel 600 with i810 video and the kernel 2.6.9. Ran terrific unless I wanted anything more than CLI becuase while some jackass was implementing new "features" they happened to break the i810 video driver which has been stable and rock solid since the dawn of time.

Bloat? sure I got that one too. I have this crazy habit of checking my kernel size after every compile. With the same hardware, same config. 2.4.27 was 1.1M, 2.6.9 was 1.9M. Just under 2 megs for a stripped kernel? I'll be damned.

If the majority of users wants a fatter, less stable kernel because it offers better support for their webcam, great. I'll be happily moving along with the 2.4 kernels.
