That's definitely a problem. The way the summary is worded makes it sound like a user having root is a security exploit... something most hardware and OS manufacturers seem to believe these days. I may have to break tradition and read the article.
You should be able to put it into a raw download (hold Vol up + Vol down in off state while plugging uSB into it) mode and use Heimdall, where you can flash a complete image over of it. Poke around for it, it's a fairly easy phone to root, and You'll be much happier with JB on it.
I consider someone *else* running as root a security hole. As long as you need physical access, this is a feature. A phone that will not let you install what you want is broken.
Installing anything with Kies is just torturing yourself. A Galaxy S1 runs Jelly Bean quite nicely, and it runs faster than stock 2.1 I find. The next phone I buy will be checked for Cyanogen support before I buy it.
Macs used to be the best hardware to run Linux on. Luckily, that's no longer true. I say luckily, as giving Apple money these days is offensive to many developers because of the direction they've pointed the industry.
Didn't somebody just get investigated by the SEC for sharing something on FaceBook? It sounds like a smart decision. Sad and depressing that it needs to happen, but smart.
Most 'exploits' that get people these days are emails, etc, with fake notifications that get people to enter their login details for FaceBook, Gmail, etc. A Mac will not help for the majority of what gets people these days.
Watching the US from the sidelines, I would think that this would be a poor time to give up the right to arm yourselves against your government. Your government now has the right to spy on and kill American citizens without any due process or oversight.
Perhaps a demonstration of Islam and Rule 34 is in order. (Actually, it most likely already exists and many of these people know of it. The hypocrisy of many religious folks is pretty spectacular at times)
The disagreement over the high fixed percentage despite the cost of the products sounds startlingly similar to Apple's complaints about fees on FRAND patents though.
Well, you aren't forced to use Google's Plat store, there are others, and side loading is allowed as well. You are also not forced to go through Google for in-app purchases I believe. Both of these services are set up so that it is convenient, and you *want* to use it. You are not forced to.
It makes me want to switch ISPs to TekSavvy. Luckily, I just did exactly that. Imagine, an ISP both following the intent of the law and standing up for its customers.
... but they were doing it very badly. Really, I think they still are. Despite how badly I dislike some aspects of Unity, I think it's a slightly better effort than Microsoft has put out.
I think that is exactly their problem. As I posted in the other related story here, they seem to be hoping that they can make an OS with an 'oooooh, shiny' factors that makes people drop their principles. Asking their users for money is a much better approach than defaulting to sending search results to Amazon, and I think they'd get more money long term. By all means, have one of the 'lenses' installable so that people can do Amazon searches if they want, but having it as a default is not going to make very many people happy.
I'm not sure why you're modded as flamebait. It's a valid opinion, and I could see it being useful. My original post has been marked as 'troll' as well, although I suppose it's closer to that than yours is to flamebait. I still think send search data to Amazon is a poorly thought-out move though.

Some of would get a decent amount of entertainment out of it as well.

Does a link to your website count as a third party payment service?

... and Microsoft takes a cut.

It doesn't really piss us off; it's just more fodder for stuff like this.

All of this crap is legal, that's why they call it tax 'avoidance'. It's not right, or fair, but it is legal.
A more jaded person would say it wears off around $100K or so.

If they're freedom fighters, it's unlikely they'd buy anything from Sony anyway.
If Jobs was still at the helm it would be your fault, not Apples. It's a bit of a stretch, but he might have been able to pull it off.
As treason is effectively working against the interests of the government, these days copyright infringement probably qualifies.
Nicely done.
