Very sad news. Stevens put a lot of himself into his books -- read Prentice-Hall's interview with him, linked on his site. Stevens talks about how he writes his books, and what his ideals are in that respect. I took the opportunity to express my appreciation while visiting his site recently; I'm glad I did.
