  1. Re:Character Run Down... on New Star Trek Series Rumblings · · Score: 1

    Hi,

Interesting thought, isn't the "Sub-Commander" rank a Romulan rather than Star a Fleet/Vulcan one?

I imagine the 256.x.x.x stuff it to prevent compaints, rather like using 555-1234 for every US telephone number.

  3. Re:It could be interesting.... on New Star Trek Series Rumblings · · Score: 1

    Hi,

I know about the "How does Seven know about First Contact" thing :-)

However the simplest explination is that not all of the Borg died and the survivors were re-assimilated or that the message from the Enterprise did get though.

Alternativly Seven only says: "The Borg were present at those events" and does not go into detail.

The fact that the Borg were there would be common knowledge, not only to the Borg themselves but to the Federation post First Contact.

The Borg could have learned of their presence at First Contact by assimilating Star Fleet personal :-)

Hi Guys, The Small-Scale Experimental Machine, known as SSEM, (aka Manchanter Mark 1 prototype), would appear to be the first electronic binary stored program computer which was able to successfuly run a stored proram on June 21st 1948. The background to this computer can be found at: http://www.computer50.org/mark1/new.baby.html As far as I am concirned, this appears to be the first "computer" that I would recognise. 6. Hackers - "Time Dialation" and other issues... on On Hollywood and the Portrayal of Computers · · Score: 1

    Hi,

I would have to agree that the depection of computers, the people who use them, and what they (the computer and the people ) can do with them is not realistic, but is is supposed to be realistic or entertainment for a non-technical audience?

The film "Hackers" had one thing right, for me anyway, in the depection the "Time Dialation" effect that happens when you are in "The Zone".

How many people have lost several hours of time while coding or some other computing related activity? Personally I have lost whole days that way!

Perhaps the opertunity exists for a good accurate documentary with real participants involved with the whole hacking, cracking, virus writing and other "darkside" of computing and the Internet?
