Education tends to lead to income which tends to lead to voting Republican.
IBM was stifleing competition and innovation before Bill Gates was even born. They had a stranglehold on the mainframe market and instead of pushing forward they held back key improvements and locked down contracts with service contracts that punished someone for buying a competitor.
All this resulted in Amdahl leaveing and forming a competitor to force innovation from IBM through competition.
