OOS are the best software for devloppement matters but they lack of user-friendlyness to be apealing to masses. FireFox made it. Good looking interface, easy-to install and comprehensive preferences. There should be more open source interface designer.
The user don't care about how the software was made. I as a programmer would rather use a java based class then a.net one because jave is cross platform. But on the user end that dessission has no importence.
In big cmopagnies there's always a noob guy to test apps. This guy don't know anything about the behind the scene side of the app. He's only here to tell you taht you're app needs to be more easy to use or taht he can't understand waht this or that is all about.
If you want to make a software addictive you neet it to have a straight foward usability and a more advanced one... I think that what needs to be rethink in Opsen source devlopement.
