And, someday, when the anthropologists of the distant future study early 21st century ruins, they will realize that our god was Google and our favorite food, Apple.
...even though I attend Purdue. Though I, in general, found DST more of a hassle than a hindrance, I wonder how many of fellow Hoosiers did. Does the study take into account the groans and awkwardness of switching gears?
I do hope that they continue the study, to see if the difference between pre-DST Indiana and post-DST Indiana starts to reach an equilibrium after the residents have had time to get used to it.
Why is this bad? For the same reason that having 'whites only' places was bad - it's discrimination. I don't care if it would be 500 times more convenient for you. It's wrong.
Man up! You were a kid once and people had to deal with your occasional whining in public. If you don't like it, bring headphones.
You know what I don't like? People whose fat rolls overflow their seating space and invade mine. Maybe we should start having "no fatties" flights.
You know what I don't like? People who try to chat me up the whole flight. I'm just trying to get somewhere - I don't want to talk to you. Maybe we should have "no chatties" flights.
You know what I don't like? People who have laptops with screens so big that the flow into my space. Maybe we should have "no laptops" flights.
You know what I don't like? People who think that cussing makes them cool because they are using adult language. Maybe we should have "g-rated only" flights.
You know what I don't like? People who forget that they are not the only people trying to get somewhere quickly and easily. People who forget that a little common courtesy could speed things up for everyone. Maybe we should have "no jerks" flights.
Ciao, Infonaut! The suspect motives are things like the following:
- the use of affiliate links to a product they claim not to like
- the possibility of paid reviews
- keyword pollution to get traffic to their site/blog/etc, when they may have not even used the device
The list goes on, but I thought a community like Slashdot would give me the best unfiltered opinions on the subject or maybe point me towards something better.
Hey Eggy - I totally hear you about not wanting to give Sony any more money after their ridiculous decisions, like rootkit. However, I want the best one for my dollars. I think the devices should be looked at for their own worth, apart from the parent companies respective politics. After all, Amazon is known for ridiculous patent schemes.
Like it or not, the Sci-Fi channel is one of the few channels that shows enjoyable shows during the graveyard shifts. I love all the reruns of the Twilight Zone. They really help the Graveyard shift here at the central station go by.
I believe you do a disservice to the young adult crowd on Slashdot by not putting your comments into perspective. Being 21, you probably still harbor feelings of "Yay! No more parenting for me!" I certainly do and I am only a few months your junior.
Because dignity and responsibility come on your 18th birthday.. Till then you're simply cattle. Can the teenager in the article own that cookie, or ANY property for that matter? Nope, it has to be "handled" for him. Can the teen enter into contracts?
Unfortunately, until we think of an alternative simple, easy system to weigh maturity and accountability, age will be used for this purpose. 300+ years ago, teenagers were adults. They were expected to be married and have some viable incone. Would you have gone for that at 14?
I think we need to be open to accept new parenting techniques with changing times. Weight is such an issue in this country - whether it is too high or not low enough. Look at how much we think and talk about it! Let us be cautious how much power we allow over children, as not all parents are concerned and loving as they should be.
I'm not usually an optimist, but how can you just throw away the hope of a real cure because of lost profits? If this were true, we'd still be using leech courses. Think of how much money those leech farmers lost when penicillin was discovered! This condition has been greatly researched and now we're seeing results. It was even discussed in a biochemistry 100 level class here at my university. My first response to this article was to be thankful.
As for the drug companies, there will always be another disease/condition to develop drugs for and they could invest in gene-therapy developers.

Does that satisfy your curiosity?
