Have you guys heard of streaming software?
Software is cached on the client but runs as if installed locally. This solves a lot of the problems mentioned on here with traditional server+thin client set-ups but with the advantages of thick-client set-ups... see www.endeavors.com for example. (BTW I don't work for this co but hold a very modest number of shares).
