Aside from just file format, you might want to check ahead of time for compatibility of any powerpoint plugins that are popular in the educational environment. Breeze, Impatica, Robohelp, Camtasia, etc, may not work with the presentation tool in OO.
Run through the process each teacher/student goes through, and you'll be able to see if it's a doable conversion.
