With GCC you get a lot more optimizations and a lot more active development of the product. With Borland 5.5 you only have Corel/Inprise developing it. Borland claims their 5.5 compiles code faster than GCC and their product does have precompiled headers. If 5.5 does compile code faster then it might but used to develop code, but GCC will be used to compile released code.
Although the artical does not discuss the natural differences between men and women, that part is very important. This is not a scientifc study, just observations leading to a bigger picture. Like the artical says, things hackers tend to do. While reading/. over the past two years I have comes accross other hackers who had similar childhood experiances as myself. As a child I disassembled and assembled my toys and enjoyed doing that more than playing with them. I did this on my own and my parents neither encouraged nor discouraged these actions. None of my friends did this. I always thought I was different. While reading/. it seems that hackers have this thirst to understand how things work and want to create things from the original. I believe I was born with this trait, like other hackers, and it was not something society taught me. It seems that this charateristic is more previlent in guys, but not many guys have it. Any thoughts on this? Like I said just observations I have made while reading/.
If Corel does not open source the whole office suite, how about the core parts of the product? This could be very helpful in many ways. It gives a base for open source people to work with and modifiy and allows Corel to focus on the latest bells and whistels. As these new features age then they could be open sourced also.

I think this could be more helpful to the open source movment, even if Interbase does not get opened up. The question IT managers need to ask themselves is what happens if the product my buisness depends on is discontinued. While Interbase is not one of the leading database plateforms it is used by many people, and a year ago no one was worried about it going away. With how quickly things moved now, the product you buisness depends on could get dumped in a relativly short time frame. With open source this is not a problem, but with closed souce it is a very big problem. This has been a problem for smaller software projects, but this is could effect a lot of buisnesses. Now standardizing on a closed souce product is even more a risk, look at the difference six months make. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call for some PHBs. The potential dumping of Interbase should cause IT managers to seriously consider open sourced software. If the open sourced project is dumped, ie. no one mantians it anymore, you at least have the option of hiring someone to maintiain it until you can find a replacement.
There is a move out on video with Val Kilmer sp?. The story is about a guy who could see as a child but lost his sight due to an illness. He under went surgery and regained his sight, but it was very tough on him. It was not as simple as returning his sight, his brain had to learn how to interperate the signals. In the credits after the movie it stated the movie was based on a true story and the guy is currently living in the Atlanta area. If any one knows the title please post it so others can watch it. It could parallel what Stevie might go through.
I have friends who are involded in the Jaycees on the East Cost. One of the Jaycees works for the WWN taking pictures. The money the WWN pays for the pictures goes to fund the Jaycees. All the stories are bogus. It is just for entertainment. In fact my girlfriend's roommate had her picture used in a story a last year about "Sharks save girls life." The story told how sharks caught food for her so she could survive after a shipwreck. Don't believe anything in the WWN.
not exactly, with all the high-tech firms in the area it makes sense for this high number. There was a recent news story stating more people in the DC area worked for high tech firms than the government. So that 60% is high-tech firms employees the 40% government workers.
I listen to Jimmy Buffett, The Barefoot Man and Brent Burns. Why you ask? It tends to put me into my own world. I forget I am at the office and wisked away to the beach. I know all the songs by heart so the words do not bother me, in fact they help to drown out the noise. If I am in the middle of a very complex problem I will switch to Mozart or some Floyd. If it is late at night and I am on a roll Metallica, Offspring, Black Sabith. 95% of the time it is Buffett.
