  1. Re:For Christ's sake on Details of the PCWeek Securelinux Crack · · Score: 1

No, this was not a bug in the default RedHat install. Did you not read the actual article? This was a bug in a CGI called "Photoads" that had to be purchased (for $149, much more than the OS cost). Next time, read the facts!

If cryptography were good enough, laws wouldn't matter!

Don't you people see that these laws are just a way of restricting the production of software? It's an invasion of privacy if the government says that you can't hide something well enough to where we can't find it, see it, read it, or change it. It's as bad as Microsoft's EULA./P.

  3. Conspiracy Theory on Details of the PCWeek Securelinux Crack · · Score: 2

Okay, so did PCWeek use a known bug in their system just to make Linux look bad? Did they think that we might not find out that it wasn't a Linux fault? Or did they think that the FUD would be thick enough as to suggest to most of the world that Linux sucks?

To me, this sounds a lot like the Mindcraft tests. What would be interesting would be to have a Linux company (like LinuxPPC, too bad they chickened out) to offer the challenge again. But don't we do that anyway? After all, if a box is out on the net, it has been a challenge to most crackers anyway.

  4. good news! on According to Compaq · · Score: 2

I'm glad that someone is working on making Linux more accessible on other platforms. Lots of work has gone into x86 versions, with Sparc and Alpha progress still lacking. Maybe Sun will follow suit and perfect Linux for Sparc. That would be a good move for them. They could have Solaris run servers, and use Linux as a workstation OS.

  5. wonder if... on Massive Fiber Cut Slows Net · · Score: 2

I wonder if this has anything to do with the slow connection rate that I get when I try and telnet into my webserver that sits in the next town over from where I work. After all, when I do a traceroute, I get shipped through machines in Chicago, SanDiego, and other exotic places. And I'm in South Carolina. A month or two ago, there was a slashjot about some guys trying to map the Internet. I think that it would be easier to map a world covered in spaghettti noodles, because that's what the Internet looks like to me!

You may be able to see a bigger screen, but it does nothing for resolution. I don't think that this will harm the large monitor industry any. Trinitron (and the like) still rule the stores!

Regardless, I still think that linux is easier to install. And there can be no easier way to upgrade than RPMs. If you want a new kernel, and don't want to compile it yourself, then just download it and use GnoRPM to install it. The same goes for any package out there.

  9. Blatant Bias...due to ignorance on Petreley on Win2k Installs and Softway Systems · · Score: 2

Any one who says that Linux is hard to install is blatantly biased. Most of this is due to ignorance. If you handed these same people a machine with an unpartitioned drive and a windows disk, they would obviously have the same problems. If you actually read the screens, Linux installs are much simpler! I have installed every distribution that I can get my hands on, and all of them, even Debian, are simpler than Windows.
