Whoa boy... take a deep breath.
if you find it okay to call all public servants lazy, then perhaps you also find it okay to call all Americans lazy?
When did I ever say anything about America, or American public servants?
I should perhaps put this in a bit of context. In Australia, when you talk of "public servants" most people immediately think of desk-workers pushing pencils in the Tax Office - and it was that type of public service job to which I was referring. There certainly are jobs in the broader sense of "public service" where you have to work very hard for the money (emergency services, armed forces, etc.)... but when you say "public servants" to an Aussie they think of the pencil pushers.
And, as someone who has held more than one pencil-pushing job in the Australian public service, I feel qualified to comment. Payrises are usually automatic (and in fact mandated in the enterprise bargaining agreement), and promotions aren't hard to come by. It's like a septic tank - the biggest lumps rise to the top.
Hardly do anything and I assure you that you will lose your job.
Unless you're a public servant... in which case, doing nothing will result in a promotion.
