Are you serious? It's not that the world doesn't really seem to care about video chat at large, it just means people who want to do video chat don't bother with linux.
Third world countries is not the same as developing nations. Third world countries are nations that didn't align themselves with either US or USSR during the cold war, it has nothing to do with whether or not they are developed.
I'd guess that 99% of Linux users (myself included) do not hack away at the X source code.
On the other hand, I'd guess that for the 1% who do hack X, this will make thier lives easier. Heck, it might even mean more people decide to work on X, which OSS dogma tells us is a Good Thing(TM), and it probably is.
If that 1% didn't hack, you wouldn't be having X
Maybe they should conduct a poll how many slashdotters read newspapers?
Not all readers get a chance to voice their opinions on newspapers. In on online version, people can post their views (Slashdot itself being a prime example) and can engage in lively arguments too.. the kind of interactivity that you don't find in paper..
Another interesting factor is the concept of archives.. a news article in a paper might have "In the story that we ran on 18th.." Even if I had read the article on that the news is referring to, there is nothing like having a hyperlink to that article that quickly allows me to scan the contents and return to what I was reading (again, how many times have we seen news on Slashdot referring to an older news on Slashdot itself?)
Traditionally, newspapers have been associated with a cup of coffee on early mornings, rocking chairs and the like (if you can get my picture)... in today's fast paced hectic world, there is hardly a time to relax..
Still.. I don't quite think e-newspaper will completely phase out the print edition. The feel of paper on my hands can not be replicated by a tablet.. definitely not

Indeed, but actions begin from thoughts only. You would never be a mass murderer unless you think about it first.
