If an artist has 10,000,000 fans, sure if 10% of potential customers download the music and don't buy it, they will lose money. But consider this. If an artist has 10,000 fans, and 90% of them download the music, sure only 10% of the profit is made. But lets say they play GOOD music. You have a portion of that 90% illegal download crowd that actually likes it, and they tell their friends. All of the sudden that 10,000 starts growing, and people buy merchandise.
Case in point: http://machinaesupremacy.com/
They offered songs for free, which I liked. They then put out 2 sample songs for a for-sale-cd, which I downloaded and liked. I then proceeded to import the CD and I am glad I downloaded their music.
Music downloading only hurts small time artists whose music sucks. Face the facts.
You'd think that Slashdot makes for great publicity... maybe it was just me, but I found this from http://isohunt.com/ on their main page news and downloaded it 5 days ago...
What do you think will be the most popular format for purchase? I think either DVD or download by a bit. This is a nice idea and I hope others follow suit.
Would you pay for a legitimate torrent sponsored by the MPAA $2 to download and watch a hit movie once on your computer? Say, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, or some good movie. Say $5 or $10 to download it and have unlimited watching. Sounds fair to me. I should be allowed to watch my DVD on my computer anyway. What do you think?
I'll thank you to remember that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were military targets. Wikipedia: "At the time of its bombing, Hiroshima was a city of considerable military significance. It contained the headquarters of the Fifth Division and Field Marshal Hata's 2nd General Army Headquarters, which commanded the defense of all of southern Japan. The city was a communications center, a storage point, and an assembly area for troops. It was chosen as a target because it had not suffered damage from previous bombing raids, allowing an ideal environment to measure the damage caused by the atomic bomb. The city was mobilized for "all-out" war, with thousands of conscripted women, children and Koreans working in military offices, military factories and building demolition and with women and children training to resist any invading force." "The city of Nagasaki had been one of the largest sea ports in southern Japan and was of great wartime importance because of its wide-ranging industrial activity, including the production of ordnance, ships, military equipment, and other war materials."
Whether you believe these weapons should have been used or not, that was not our war. It was not my choice, it was theirs. Everything is not a conspiracy.
True that. sometimes in azumanga daioh, they are taking ENGLISH class, and all the jokes are about japanese culture. a dub would screw this up. America is too americanized right now, so i don't see any progression happening until Cartoon network or some other major [american] company broadcasts good anime with subtitles. lets say... something good that hasn't come out in america yet? If fullmetal alchemist was released in theaters here with subtitles, i would see it in a heartbeat, even if i had to pay $20 admission.
About the 1138 reference... there is reference to 1138 in _every_ one of george lucas' films. Yes, including star wars III. i'm shocked the list of easter eggs did not mention the episode III occurance, since it's an easter egg in _all_ the movies.
outside the american military its 2005, inside its still the 1950's.
Wrong. It's more like 1970s-1980s here. difference being, the stuff still works as good as it did back then.:)
Ah true. In that situation, the engine monitor data would be stored on the engine diagnostics, so hopefully they don't know how to read that. [It's not like its easy to read in the first place. You need the right connectors and power supply, and you'd need the software to read it off of there, and that stuff is pretty hard to get if you're not supposed to have it, let alone to understand how to do it by yourself if you don't have the equipment!] So, all in all, i don't think they'd know how to get that data anyway in that situation.
Why would engine monitor data need to be encrypted? All it is is fuel flow rates, its pressure and temperature, FTIT, etc. The pilot needs to see this data anyway to monitor in-flight. Maybe they're talking about when this information goes through engine diagnostics or is stored for looking at later?
Oh, and do these guys just do civilian aircraft, or military too?
I'd think no one would buy their engine monitor units if they couldn't look at the logs to monitor their own aircraft statistics [think nascar]. Could be a good way to lose customers. What do you think?

But I thought cell phones with cameras and a service area could already do this?

Blah blah blah blah blah.......
...A microsoft supported file sharing program! wait... what does the FS stand for again?
I wish I would get the opportunity to fix those once they produce them and they go out of warranty :(
Expect litigation, USPTO! I have a patent covering overhauling patent law!
...getting a 419 file not found error on that last link?
I refuse to read the American English version, so all I care about is getting my hands on the original book imported at some point.

Maybe we could use that mirror to get a different viewpoint of the article?
