I don't care how big something is to download (who still uses dial-up?), just how instrusive it is to update the darn thing when the inevitable patch(es) come(s) out. Sure, I have to reboot my Windows box once a month for system patches anyway but that assumes the patch is not released out of cycle...
But you are correct, default and 'good enough' will rule the day.
Although it may be a bulkier cable now...you no longer have to carry around the darn serial port all the time in the laptop.
