First of all, using an open wireless connection should not be compared to opening someones door. The connection is being broadcast beyond the boundries of the property. As someone said earlier, it's like using someones light in their house to read. Problem with reading by the light from someones house is that your in front of someones house.
Problem I see with this has more to do with sitting in front of someones house than using the internet. The fact is that they guy has no case now and is facing a felony. He could spend over a year in jail, lose his right to vote, get disbared, lose his securities license, and be required to put this on every job app he fills out for the rest of his life.
In my opinion, the guy who called the cops needs to get his house egged, the "theif" should pay a heavy fine for being weird amoung other things, and in my opinon it is the law makers who should be most to blame. The guy does not need a felony for simply using an unprotected wireless network. Who got paid tax dollars to come up with this wise idea?
