There's Accessibility settings to allow for VoiceOver, Zoom, Large Text, Speaking auto corrections,etc... at least in iOS4. I'm fairly certain at a minimum that VoiceOver, Zoom and Large Text are in 3.2, but I don't have an iPad to test. They do try to make it accessible. Unfortunately most app writers don't test their app with those settings turned on.
You can pick up a used Palm off of ebay. I used to use a Palm Vx. Thin, rechargable battery, and plenty of ebook software out there. Go with a Palm III if you'd prefer batteries.
Now I just use my cell phone, a nokia 6620, with mobipocket reader software.
What do you consider to be a reasonable price? I just bought Routis 2004 with a GPS for $199. This includes the interface/car adapter for the pocketPC.
It was one of the most reasonable combos I've found, and the navigation software looks to be a bit better than some of the others I've looked at (Mapopolis comes to mind). It has voice prompts, and big buttons for the onscreen menus and keyboard, so you can use your finger instead of trying to use the stylus while driving.

Disclaimer: I ordered it two days ago, and haven't recieved it yet, so no testing by me has been done. They do offer a 30-day money back guarantee, though.
One thing I've noticed is that (good) games tend to come around full circle. I'm a sucker for pretty graphics, so I tend to go and buy the latest Playstation or PC Games, and normally after a few days, they end up sitting in their jewel cases collecting dust. I almost always find myself reverting back to loading up MAME and running old arcade games, like Rolling Thunder and Shinobi. I have no idea why I prefer these over the new games, they're just as brainless if not more so than the latest FPS.
Who knows, maybe 10 years from now I'll find myself dusting off my Playstation and finally finishing, oh, ANY PS game I own.
I won't cry 'censorship' -- that's not what this is. MP3.com is a private organization, and can make whatever rules they wish within the bracket of established law.
actually, MP3.com is a public company.
(see ticker 'MPPP')I would say their doing this out of fear of losing even more money and shareholders, not necessarily fear of legislation, however I guess one can lead to the other.
The beeping is very annoying to me, but whats worse are the two people in the cubes on either side of mine, who are threatening my life right now. I've covered the thing up by grabbing a roll of paper towels and wrapping it up using about half the roll. I then threw it in a desk drawer. I can still hear the damn thing! As far as your memory question goes, I have the same. I think that's the normal amount. The Vx's never showed a full 8megs. There's some reason for this that I had read somewhere, but unfortunately I can't remember it.
true, but i'm sure those just legally blind or visually impaired appreciate it.

I've bought some of the LR6's as well. They look nice, no one I showed them to were able to tell that it was an LED, and they're dimmable!
I'd love to know where you got them for $80/ea though!

ah ha.. That better explains things. Thanks for clearing it up. Apparently, it confused the hell out of me, too!

This looks to me like a form of damage control from JWZ and others jumping ship.
