Firefly was the best scifi series on tv since Babylon 5. Fox canned it to concentrate on reality shows... Great characters, great stories, and a cool blend of cowboy and tech.
The whole thing sounds like prior restraint. The right to free speach is guaranteed in the Bill of Rights! You make the assumption that any p2p application is uese for illegal purposes and that any mp3 file is copyrighted material. It is like assuming that all news papers will print treasonous material; this is not a valid assumption. P2P can be used to transmit pictures of my dog to a friend, with an mp3 of her barking her fool head off.
You want to poke a finger in the RIAA? Get a college student to upload a whole bunch of different mp3 files from a broad range of sources. Make sure that all of the mp3 files are titled with almost right rock music names and make sure the content is not copy righted.... Or, set up fake identities that do that. Create a lot of them. Make them sift through it all.
How about this for irony. I accessed the site using the link and got an error about a problem with the system registry. Let's see the "Registry" is that a Linux or a Windows construct? Maybe they should switch to DOS/VSE?
Why is open source any more of a threat than just copying the latest MS disk? MS argues that they have the best operating system ever, so steal that one. Big companies have disks floating all over the place with the keys prominanly displayed on the cover. MS tells you how to add new drivers etc.. How is open source any more vulnerable to misuse than any other operating system?
Besides there is no fun in "stealing" from people who just give you their code!
