I'm suprised more people don't understand this.
Look how long we've been paying 50 dollars a game. Now you look at the first game that cost 50 bucks, and todays game, and tell me that the graphics department is doing the same amount of work.
Use to you'd program the color of things into the code. Now you've got artists making super high resolution pictures for everything. That takes time...and the higher the resolution and detail, the more time it takes.
Think about Doom. There was like, 4 different looking wall types. Now look at Doom 3. Lots more than four different wall types.
I'd hate to have to pay more, but the fact of the matter is, the amount of work going into games now as opposed to 10 years ago is rediculous.
they make this big of a fuss as another mode of publicity. Some people see others making such a big deal out of it, and they think, "Hey, maybe there's something to this." And bam...another reader.
