This article actually makes me a little sick, especially this quote:
"We are focused on obtaining jury verdicts," he says. "That's why we put our own money at risk, all the way from acquisition through appeal."
Sad that an important and inherently useful system like the patent is being used to such evil ends.
Hmmm...you have to go visit your old, retired, disabled, super bored mother every month? Im sure she is really really interested in getting a computer that stops you from visiting her.
The best AI you can get is playing people on a LAN or on the net and most gamers seem to think that is quite fun. Even if some of those noobs are mentally challeneged...
This technique isnt anyhting new. I work in electron tomography and produce 3d images with resolution on teh nanometer scale. There are many different types of tomogrpahy that have been used for decades: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomography/>
A lot of people are misinterpreting what this program entails. It wont cost AOL members money to send e-mails. And it wont cost YOU anything to send e-mails to AOL members.
The goodmail service just allows legitimate mass-mailers who have good e-mail practices (non-spammers) to BYPASS all the spam filters and other roadblocks that AOL puts up to filter out spam.
This is more like the HOV lane on modern freeways except that you pay for the little sticker to give you access. You can still send the e-mail through normal channels with the possibility of the message being flagged as spam.
Paying for the premium service gives you AOL's stamp of approval on the e-mail and quick access to their users' inboxes.
Who cares how much work it takes for them to "turn around" a patch. What matters in the end is when the hole is fixed. And Mozilla seems to fix them faster. End of story.
Actually, I read that you will be able to download the song to your computer as well as your cell phone for that price. So its not as bad as you might think. But its still more expensive than iTunes.
Thats a sweet looking system. Id probably have more fun playing old school NES games than the new stuff anyway. Plus mp3/ogg and DIVX? I just wish it had a little more memory on board. Tough system to beat, though!
They want to launch with more titles? How many titles will people want to buy with the $300 hardware? They really just need one really good launch title with others trickling in to keep interest up. If Sony launches with a bunch of new titles people will only buy 1-3 of them and then buy the newer titles that come out after the launch and forget about most of the launch titles.
I just looked at the back of my PS2 box today and recognized maybe one game. Of course...their last launch was abismal so that doesnt say much.
But really...how many people buy a lot of games right after they buy a new console?
ID doestn adhere to the scientific method. One goal of the scientific method is to create laws that are PREDICTIVE in nature. People have been predicting the end of the world for two thousand years now and it still hasnt happened. That says to me that the information ID is based on shouldnt carry much clout as a scientific idea.
Religious scriptures are more like history books or a "Living Life for Dummies" book than a peer reviewed scientific paper.

I've always thought that George Carlin said it best (slightly paraphrased): "When you purchase a dog, you are in fact purchasing a small tragedy"
