The story is much more about human interaction than science anyway. I would imagine a 13 year old girl would enjoy that sort of thing. Then again... I've never been one :).

despite the fact that i probably spelled canable wrong, i'm going to try and post anyway... I caught a little bit of the Y2K movie during the X-Files commercials and let me tell you something. I have rarely been offended this much by a movie. Its not so much that its a reactionary piece of garbage clearly written by people who dont know what they are talking about. well.. no im full of shit. thats exaclty why i dislike it. of course the INCREDIBLY bad acting didnt help either. i couldn't stand to watch the whole thing... I will give them one thing though. I clapped when whatshername went off about how the millenium doesn't start until 2001. if anything comes from america watching this movie i hope it's that they stop calling Y2K the New Millenium. (fat chance right?) oh well. X-files was good though... almost as good as the lighting boy episode. yum!

  10. Re:The Problem With Netscape Is?? on Communicator Is Losing The War..... · · Score: 1

once upon a time i used netscape. well wait lets go back. once upon a time i used mosaic. :) Then! came netscape and i was much happier. when microsoft whipped out IE i was unenthused. it was just a buggy version of netscape with a little windows throbber instead. so i let it sit. Fast forward to IE 4.0 still buggy. crashed constantly on my machine, and always took the system tray with it.. finally IMO IE 5.0 was a stable and worth using browser. still a ripoff of netscape, but thats microsoft for you...

im rambling, so let me get to the point. I am the webmaster of a small Internet ECommerce Company, and i spend something most of my days making webpages. doing this job kind of forces you to know the browsers inside and out. i dont like netscape and let me tell you why:

netscape is picky as hell. i have missing or extra html tags often netscape will refuse to display the page. internet explorer on the other hand ignores the error, or guesses where tags should go, etc... most of the time this works great in IE. now on the one hand netscape encourages you to write good clean html. and clean html is always the goal. on the other hand netscape FORCES you to write good clean html. while IE is much more forgiving. thats netscape gripe #1. not a huge huge deal..

the other thing that really gets me about netscape is its lack of supported features. take style sheets for example. now style sheets are wonderful things with all sorts of powerful tags to let you design your webpage. but on the average netscape seems to support only about half of the stylesheet tags. now im not saying IE is perfect in that respect. but they are hitting closer to 80%-90% of the tags functioning like they are suposed to. netscape is 50%-50%..

point is. netscape may seem fine and functional to a user, but it's quite limiting to anyone designing html. This is really unfortunate as us poor overworked webdesigners often get stuck making one page layout for netscape and one for IE, or even worse having to cut out some of the stylesheet effects they want to use because netscape cant handle it... i think a lot of companys (especially those doing web design of some sort) are realising that netscape is behind the curve, and if you want the latest thing you need to be viewing in another browser.

(besides being able to shoot processes with the plasma rifle i mean :) i DO like the fact that they aren't content to leave gui's as they are There have got to be ways to make a more productive enviornment... any ideas? ive got a few...

  16. well why dont we make one then? on On Hollywood and the Portrayal of Computers · · Score: 1

you know funny thing.. i was thinking about this same thing about a week ago after i watched hackers with some friends. now dont get me wrong i love that movie, its very entertaining... but the hacking is way off base (i want a full 3d unix operating system on a mac! :P). anyway why shouldn't we go and make a movie about hacking that is realistic... holywood is NEVER going to get it right, but independant films dont have the kind of artistic restrictions holywood emposes... seems to me that the technical details don't have to be screwed up to have a good movie..

before i start rambling too much let me get to the point. i started writing a script about a week ago that does just this. its a low budget film about a small group of hackers and their personal lives. its coming together slowly but there is a little bit of law enforcement trouble, but its not really the focus. the film is hopefully going to try and explain why people become hackers/crackers/phreakers. It will be the kind of story that like "War Games" makes kids get curious and go out and start learning some things... not that i encourage trying to break into NASA's webserver ;).

right now all i have is a general story outline, and a few scenes laid out in my head but its coming together. since this posting was up today i thought i'd see what you people think about it and give you a chance to throw some suggestions at me. im deffinatly interested in any hacker/cracker movie ideas and or information you would like to pass along. Thanks!
