I do not think that Derby and MySQL are direct competitors... And Sun works closely with Derby (JavaDB) so I think Sun will be careful in not getting two of its 'products' into a market conflict or direct competition.

If they have the same nerve impulse speed as humans (probably they have) then being smaller will not matter at all.
I have no data to confirm this but I think there is no correlation (in humans) between the height and speed response. (?)

While I think that creationism as shown by the "holly bible" is a fairy tale for kids and evolutionist theories are the right way to go if we backtrack a few billions of years to the
big bang era then something must be created before it started to evolve. Maybe after that God died with the explosion ( as Nietschze said) but I can't conceive that that huge amount of energy just appeared from nowhere...
