I'd recommend, for anyone, to check out Vanguard. Start out reading a book like, the 'Bogglehead's Guide to Investing'. This is a great book to get started with (John Boggle founded Vanguard). There's a loyal community of 'Vanguard Diehards' willing to offer advice, as well. Goodluck
I do not think this is the couple's fault at all. Best Buy supposedly was serviced to erase/destroy the hard drive.
In a perfect world, people would take care of destroying their own data. Apparently, in this case, the couple seemingly didn't know how, so they hired Best Buy to take care of this - which is (usually) the next most responsible choice.
I'm not sure I would agree 100% that everything will go to oss - even in the long-term. I've been on mainframe/db2 for three years and have inherited a lot of respect for big iron's sw abilities (and hw, of course).
But, I guess, you cannot predict the future.
I grew up using Mac OS and now am the youngest, by far, in our datacenter to be an MVS DB2 DBA. My 25th birthday is coming in a few months:P
I studied CE in school and the move to 'old school' has been an interesting change. Working for 2 1/2 years now.
Mainframe Operations at the bottom of the list? Am I a young person in trouble?
