First off, you really need to check SourceForge.net or FreshMeat.net first. There there are plenty of POS software projects ... Be careful... The author means Point-Of-Sale not Piece-Of-Shit. /me hides...

Your argument ignores the fact that the Intel C++ Compiler (icc) provides quicker execution times for many sets of code. It even has been found to speed up execution times Athlon processors.

    > A system administrator's job will be on the line if a system crashes due to... overclockers, the tuners and the tweakers.

This is why I test things before they are moved into a production environment and never overclock, and may sometimes underclock. However I do tune and tweak. But my definition of tuneing and tweaking may be different from yours.

NOTE: I think it was three+ years ago that I began to use Gentoo. My main reason was that mplayer "just worked" with any video format I gave it. I set up the use flags, and didn't have to "find" a secondary site to support windows or quicktime codecs. It was already there. Over time... anything else that I decided I needed was "already there".

I havn't shoped for another distribution since. I havn't had the need. Maybe someday. But not since three years ago.
