Every once in a while a telemarketer will leave a message. Personally I keep getting messages from some bogus phychic network bullshit. The thing that really pisses me off though is when the telemarketers don't even call you, they have a machine that tells you to stay on the line for the next available representative - YEA RIGHT!
There will never be a "free hardware" movement. It costs too much to make it. "Free software" works because you can put LOTS and LOTS of code on a CD, and all you need to build it is a compiler.
Hardware is much different. To build it, you need access to a multi-billion dollar fab. In fact, several companies are releasing specs for thier hardware (see Sun Sparc and MIPS). If you wanted you could get the all of the information you needed to build thier hardward, but you would need millions of dollars to do it!
How exactly is Microsoft going to "break" my encoders and players? I have a pretty good size data base of MP3s now. When a better technology is available I will evaluate it, but nothing I use is going to destroy the data base that I have already created.
This marketing scheme was developed in 1994, way before AMD or Cyrix had any noticable market share. You can't blame Intel's agressivness on falling market share.
Given that, Intel is very famous for its maketing skills. The technology might be advancing from one generation to the next, but Intel has been very smart about pricing structure and availability. The Intel Inside marketing scheme is just part of that agressive, take no prisoners, do or die maketing scheme.
I think that moderating up is a great idea. The strong commentors should be rewarded because that's what I really come here for.
I don't think that comments should start out at less than 0. Most moderators will probably never even see these comments so it will be very difficult to bring your default score back up to where other people might see it.
So you think that the only software that should be released should support every hardware platform out there? There are some applications where the benefit of making software easily portable just isn't worth it and games is one of those applications.
I think that you are confused. The Playstation 2 will not RUN Linux. The games CAN be developed on Linux and then cross compiled to the Playstation 2 hardware.
The only way Intel was able to get the PIII to run at 1GHz was to super-cool it with liquid nitrogen. You think that they are ever going to market that?
I can just see it now. Some overclocker is going to be messing around with the CPU and is going to get his fingers frozen off.

At least quote the source of your sig man! Fishbone rules!
Your girlfriend and a glass of water huh? Likely story.
It sounds to me like someone was trying out one handed typing at the porn sites!

The PIII isn't going to bread 700MHz.
