    I had several instances with similar experiences, and some experiences where they didn't have the stock they thought they had. As in "we're holding your item at the store - oh, we guess we don't have it." After several emails with their management, they basically admitted that although they sold computers, they had no idea how to use them to manage inventory.

    But that's not an official document. And it's widely acknowledged that Sun's JVM does not wholely conform to this book.

    What he meant was *some* source to *something* was available. For example, where's the source to the binary module that implements Adler32? What? Java has binary code linked into it? And yes, I'm still waiting for a complete/official specification of what Java and the JVM actually is. Come to think of it, I've been waiting 10 years.

    Actually, I think your example is exactly right. Particularly the comparison to Enron paper shredding. That's a case where the Supreme Court ruled the over-zealous prosecution was totally meritless but not before the lives of thousands of Arthur Andersen employees were negatively affected.

    Hmm, what OS would that be? Note the US-CERT article that Linux/Unix/Mac had almost 3 times the security issues last year as Windows? So we're guessing maybe a VAX or a Cyber? Not that I'm a huge Microsoft fan, it's just security is a little more complicated that *saying* you have a secure system.
