Read "the age of spiritual machines" by Ray Kurzweil.
He goes beyond this Car business, into what will Man become as we see the technology progress at the current rapid pace. Will we loose our own identity and be assimilated into what can only be defined as a cyborg? cyborg being a human that's been 'enhanced' with numerous implants.. for eyes (contacts) for hearing (hearing aid), memory implants, physical implants (stronger limbs) tracking devices (RFID capsules) etc. etc.
