I don't know other European countries' laws but in Czech Republic allofmp3 is definitely legal - you're allowed to download any audio/video you want (even from "illegal" source) but you must not share the data with someone else. I call this a good law.
Of course VC++ will be able to compile g++ code but the reverse is hardly ever true. (3.4.4 has been good, Im hoping 4.0.x will be better...)
Of course? Don't you see all those VS.NET hacks in many commonly used libraries? What about that horrible dynamic cast bug that took them so looong to fix? 4.0.x was released long time ago, now I use 4.1beta without any problems...
But I admit that VC++ is unbeatable when we look at optimizations.
That's because Azureus is written in Java. Native implementations (like very well written libtorrent) are usually much more CPU efficient.
I think that encryption wouldn't be such a problem in general, although there should be an option to turn it off and encrypt communication only with peers that require it - most users do not have such a bad ISP.

Is Dirac that good? OGG Theora seems to be more ready to use...
Nero wouldn't be shutdown. Nero is developed in Germany, not in USA.

No MS software in EU? That would be cool...we'd save a lot of money on Windows & Office licenses that our government's officers "really need so much".
75% of spam I get (on gmail.com) is in Chinese. I totally don't know why - I don't visit and register on Chiniese websites and I don't speak Chinese.
But I am quite happy because all this crap gets filtered by gmail.
P.S.: there are little bit more Linux users than OS X users... Definitely in Europe and in global probably too: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.a sp
