I guarantee you that this will be a *huge* hit in Japan and other East Asian countries such as Korea. They just love wondering around in 3D virtual worlds chatting with people. If it is not popular in the West, Sony will still make money.
Careful! I for one(as a fellow Slashdotter) believe your statement that you were only "stocking up" each week on blank $0.50 CD/DVDs and 300gig HDs so that you to back up your legally downloaded porn collection, yet I wonder what the MPAA/RIAA's take would be? I can see the headlines now: Guy Busted for Inadvertently Posting Admission to Mass Piracy on Slahdot;-)
Skype is fine. Just update to the latest version (which is probably why there was a new version released.. to make it fully compatible). In fact, having used Vista, err.. since it came out... I can say that I have had a lot less problems than with XP. Once all the drivers are installed, (most of the XP ones work fine with Vista) everything works very sweetly. I would not know about games though -- never play 'em. Never played 'em on XP either.
Lately, why are there often simultaneous "training" exercises at times of major terror attacks? Look at 911. Same thing. NORAD were holding massive airforce exercises. Somebody in the know, please enlighten!
Damn, I will have to find another way of getting movies with Japanese subtitles. Winmx is great because it can handle double byte characters. And I do agree with other posts here regarding the interface. Simple is best. It just gets the job done. In fact, here in Japan, Winmx is one of the biggest P2P networks; again, due to the fact it handles double byte characters. Oh, and did I neglect to mention that it is possible to chat to individual users, search only certain users' files, change queues, promote people in the queue, and start-stop users that don't share? All in all, I consider it to very powerful, actually.
And yup, I still have not found another P2P service that offers all of these features.

Forget about my ears, will my speakers be able to tell the difference between the two?
Thanks to great coverage from the BBC.
