You know, there IS a dichotomy between freedom and equality (which in this case safety, ie, and equal right to life).
Technology increases the abilities of an individual. Way back in the day when the country was founded, the most that one person could do was load up his musket and shoot one or two people. The government/law could easily crush him. But now, one person could make a virus or a bomb that could kill thousands of people. And the ONLY way to prevent that is to give the government more power, which means letting them do things that decrease personal freedom.
So just think a little before shouting "FREEDOM!!!1!" all the time, that's all I ask. It has to be a balance (obviously we dont want the other extreme (an ultra-powerful, dangerous government) either)
