Here's another question: who traditionally had first dibs on the inheritance of aristocratic titles, land, and property?
Answer: the firstborn *son*
If you look at the methods for recording suicide rates, you will see that in the past, murders & suicides of women were far less likely to be recorded or investigated, and that may still be the case. So I don't consider the comparison of womens' present & past suicide rates meaningful.
